Some gems of Venetian art and history are found very close to Hotel Capri, at less than 10 minutes walking distance. The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the large church belonging to the Franciscan Order and the second in Venice after Saint Mark's as far as historic and artistic importance, preserves in its impressive Gothic setting some masterpieces of painting and sculpture such as the Altar of the Assumption by Titian (1516) and the Tryptich of the Virgin and the Saints by Giovanni Bellini (1488), and the Scuola Grande di San Rocco (Great School), a succession of rooms that hold the most important painting cycle by Tintoretto (1564 - 67 ). At only 5 minutes there is still another Scuola Grande, the one by San Giovanni Evangelista, fine architecture and impressive staircase dating from the 15th century and with paintings by Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Tiepolo and other masters from the 17th and 18th centuries and nowadays the place where important international congresses and prestigious classical music concerts are held. Walk a little more and in 15 minutes from Hotel Capri you will reach the Rialto which has been the commercial heart of Venice since always: the pleasant stroll is a good excuse to get to see the ancient and picturesque Pescheria (fish market), stop at the vegetable and fruit market, or to see the original Rialto Bridge lined by shops. For those who prefer the vaporettos, the traditional public transport boats, Hotel Capri is near to the Piazzale Roma stop (400 meters) and to Stazione Santa Lucia (500 meters) where you can take lines ACTV 1 and 82 that go along the splendid Grand Canal and reach the most beautiful and famous landmarks of Venice: Rialto, Saint Mark's Square, the Gallerie dell'Accademia, the Guggenheim Collection etc., and the motorboats for Murano, the island famous for its glass.

Location
Hotel Capri is located in a characteristic Corte (very small square) in the heart of the most authentic Venice, close to Piazzale Roma, the car terminal, and to the airport shuttle and to the Venice station of Santa Lucia. Centrally located yet away from the tourist bustle, Hotel Capri enjoys an enviable position among the hotels in Venice. In the maze of narrow streets and small squares around the hotel, students and professors from the prestigious Università di Venezia Ca' Foscari pour down to small shops, bookstores, cafes and bacari (the typical Venetian inns). This area is located between Corte de le Case Nove, where Hotel Capri stands, Tolentini, the architecture site, and Campo Santa Margherita, the great meeting place near Ca' Foscari. The bohemian atmosphere and the cultural movement at night, and the picturesque liveliness during the day, make this neighborhood so original and pleasant that it can be compared to the Latin quarters of Paris.
