Lobby
The lobby interior which emphasizes a conscious attempt to create tension between the old and new, swank and hip, serious and whimsical highlight a lobby with a hand-blown Italian glass chandeliers, and a bust of Thomas Jefferson facing the marble fireplace. Here you will find comfortable and stylish chairs and sofas where you can relax and enjoy complimentary morning coffee service and evening wine receptions.
Exterior
The hotel exists as an adaptive reuse project in what was most recently the Tariff Building and has served at different times as the General Post Office, and a Civil War Commissary. Constructed in 1839 and designed by architect Robert Mills, the building is the second significant Federal Building constructed after the Capitol in Washington. Large columns and an all marble and iron beam construction highlight this National Historic Register jewel which occupies and entire city block.

The 183 guestrooms including 15 suites and 11 rooms with two double beds. Rooms include complimentary high-speed Internet access, cordless telephones with voicemail and two-line data ports, 24-hour room service provided by the hotel brasserie, located adjacent to the hotel, complimentary morning newspaper, complimentary morning coffee service in our lobby (in-room coffee makers are available on request), personalized wake-up calls including daily weather reports, luxury bath amenities, plush terry cloth robes, complimentary in-room safety deposit boxes (can hold laptops), and 5-disk CD players.
Restaurant
the brasserie serves American brasserie style food is a neighborhood favorite and winner of the 2008 RAMMY Award for Best Upscale Dinner spot in Washington DC. Situated in what was once the mail sorting room when the building served as the General Post Office the restaurant serves up fare which is focused on local and organic products and produce. Warm weather guests will enjoy the extra treat of outside dining (seasonal) in the courtyard and patio for a truly "Washingtonian" summertime atmosphere.
