Excellent hotel, but who care's about that when the location is so good.

Excellent location, friendly staff, rooms very clean, comfortable and lovely decor, if you like crushed velvet. what more do you want? (ok maybe a hot tub!) continental breakfast included a choice of 2 cereals, selection of cold meats and cheeses, bread, croissants and muffins, as well as juice and coffee. pretty typical of any continental breakfast but a bit of fruit and yogurt wouldn't of hurt!
the best thing is the location, 30 secs (if that) walk to plaça reial and las ramblas, and therefore you will hardly see your hotel!
had a great time and was very sad to leave :(

Great location!

When we first arrived at hotel california it was a little difficult to find because it was in the middle of the twisted , tiny streets of las ramblas, which ended up being one of the reasons we loved it. i read a review before we booked here that said turn off la rambla between the kfc and the mcdonald's, once you get off the metro at the liceu stop. then turn left at rauric. these were pretty good directions. when we first walked in to the hotel, the man at reception was very rude and curt to us. then more customers came down and asked to store their luggage for a while. when they did not understand what he was saying, he yelled at them. we checked in, but our room was not ready so we also left our luggage and walked around the area for a bit. when we got back to check in, the reception person was much nicer and was very nice every time we saw him after that. the weekend reception guy was always much nicer and very helpful. we enjoyed him a lot. our room was nice, but a little loud at night since we were overlooking the road. the next day we stay in for a few hours to get some work done and, since we were still in our room and they couldn't clean it, the cleaning crew left us a bag by our door with more clean towels, shampoo, soap and toilet paper in it. this was wonderful. we checked out the next day at noon, but our flight did not leave until 9. we were allowed to leave our bags at reception until we went to the airport. overall, this was a great hotel!
