Best location; just steps away from la rambla

This is my 2nd stay at hotel nouvel. first time in december 2006 and now in may 2012 and i immediately noticed lots of improvements. fortunately, they kept the lovely art deco style frontage and lobby. unfortunately, they didn't enlarge the front desk at all so that if more than one person is checking in or out or just getting information at the desk, then the queue invades the space of those people using the lift so that getting in or out of the lift becomes tricky! however, the rooms have been substantially upgraded as have the bathrooms and for the price paid, i think they are excellent value for money. we found it very peaceful and quiet despite staying over the weekend nights and it simply can't be beaten for location. within 2 minutes you can be on la rambla or in placa de catalunya and from there you can get anywhere in the city. the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. you can hire a self-programming room safe for just €1.50 per night which is great for keeping your passport and valuables safe because sadly barcelona does have a poor reputation for pickpockets.

Great location.

This was our second stay here. the location is still fantastic. less than 5 minutes walk from the airport bus in catalunya square, 1 minute from the ramblas. i did however have a few reservations this time. we were given room 367 which was overlooking the alleyway leading to the hotel restaurant. that in itself was not a problem. what we didn't like was the fact that we were about 2 metres from the bedroom windows on the opposite side of the alleyway. so in 4 nights and 5 days we never opened the curtains! the bed was rather hard for my liking and we had to ask for more pillows as the ones there were extremely thin. they appeared within minutes. the bathroom had been recently installed/refitted. it was quite small but very, very nice. breakfast was ok. fruit, yoghurt, cereal, ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, sausages, toast, croissants, juice, quite decent coffee and various teas. very friendly reception. luggage storage if you don't want to carry stuff round on your leaving day.

Girls on tour

After some of the reviews we had read we were very unsure of what to expect. we were delighted to find very friendly and pleasant reception staff. we had two triple rooms, one of which only had a small window which opened into the lift shaft. this was only a minor incovenience as the air conditioning in the room was excellent. rooms were large, bathrooms excellent and towels changed daily. breakfast plenty of choice. the hotel was in an excellent position just off las ramblas. overall i would definately recommend this hotel.
