The Bidasoa Hotel, located in Santiago, is the most sustainable Eco Boutique Hotel in Latin America, with 16 ecological practices that reduce damage to the environment and with a constant commitment to make progress in caring for the planet. For this project our office worked with the premise of using materials in accordance with sustainability and, in addition, giving a predominant place to nature, as a way of adding awareness. The concept of travel is the one that runs through all the interior design. Not only because it is a hotel, where people in transit are accommodated, but also because to enter it is also to travel in time: through different aesthetics and through the migrant history of the founding family, who arrived in Chile on the legendary Winnipeg in 1939. Through the interior design we sought to give life to a geography with Caribbean reminiscences, at times with classic European winks and at times simply fictitious; a dreamlike space that alludes to a pristine and voracious nature. In this search, different Latin American aesthetics were enhanced in combination with styles such as Art Deco, European elements such as wooden boiseries and certain bronze objects. The ceramic tile floors and mosaic walls refer to the humid climate of Central America, generating a fresh sensation. Hand-painted murals evoking exotic landscapes were brought from France. All this, enhanced with a bold use of color that contributes to this unique atmosphere of unclassifiable geography, turning the Hotel Bidasoa into a meeting place, with an active role in the city of Santiago.
