Inaugurated in 1950, the traditional Novo Mundo Hotel, located in an exclusive area on Flamengo Beach, right next to Catete Palace, is a part of the city’s history itself, as well as a part of Carioca’s life. The two ironwork lions placed at the Hotel entrance have fascinated children throughout generations. The Jacquemart sculptures were created originally to adorn Baroness Geslin’s “School for Girls”, located at former Rua do Príncipe, currently Rua Silveira Martins. They were 4 majestic lions, however, when the school was demolished, only those two were left which are now at the Novo Mundo Hotel. When the subject is majesty, we have to mention the “King” which was always a guest at the Hotel: "King” Pelé, used to stay at the Novo Mundo Hotel with the Santos Soccer team whenever there was a game in Rio As a matter of fact, he was a guest at the hotel when he scored his thousandth goal. Besides the Soccer teams, the Hotel today also hosts athletes from different sports, such as tennis players, swimmers and marathoners. Meeting point for the Brazilian political elite’s ever since the Catete Palace was the government’s headquarters, the Novo Mundo Hotel has been hosting governmental leaders from all over the country. Technology is constantly updated at the Novo Mundo Hotel. The computerized system is reputed as one of the best hotel computer systems in the market and the computer room for client’s personal use has been recently enlarged. As for the Grand Prix Bar & Coffee Shop, now offers wireless internet and computers with high speed Internet access. The Hotel also offers high speed Internet access inside all guests rooms. Recently extended, the fitness room was just re-openned, now at the acess floor, near by Reception Desk. Therefore, Novo Mundo Hotel, a landmark in the city of Rio de Janeiro, keeps its pleasant Carioca style, harmonizing tradition with innovation.

Novo Mundo Hotel has 231 rooms, available in two different categories: Executive and Economy floors. Within these categories, you can choose from Standard guestrooms, Superior and De Luxe. It also offers separate floors for non-smokers and rooms for allergy sensitive persons. Each unit is equipped with air conditioning, in-room safe deposit box, a refrigerated, private bar, telephones with direct dial for local and international calls, and cable TV. On all floors, there are the Garden and Bay suites. They offer a beautiful view of the Catete Palace gardens, Guanabara Bay, and the Sugar Loaf. The Executive floors are located between the 9th and the 11th floors. These units have an upscale décor, with beautiful woodwork floors and bathooms including amenities such as hairdryer and magnifying mirror. On the 12th floor, there are the Junior, Executive and Presidential Suites whitch are more spacious with a separate living-room and high speed internet access. Some units face the Corcovado

Pursuing to offer healthy meals, the restaurant offers several options of light food in the menu, with a large variety of salads, cheese and cold cuts, not to mention fish, meat and grill. Breakfast served in a rich buffet is the best way to start the day. A charming live piano can be enjoyed during lunch or dinner, from Monday to Friday, with meal options either in the Buffet or a La Carte. On Saturdays, you can meet your friends and savor our famous “feijoada”. The Flamboyant Restaurant is also a delicious option for those participating in events in the Hotel’s Conventions Center.

Close to the Santos Dumont airport and a block away from the subway station, going to and from the Hotel is fast and safe: in only 5 minutes you reach Downtown, where most of the firms are located, as well as the city’s historical cultural passageway and the Sambódromo, stage set of the wonderful Samba School Parade, during Carnival. Right across the hotel lies the Flamengo Park, with entertaining options for all ages. On Sundays and holidays, the Park’s lane is closed to traffic and becomes a huge outdoor leisure area. Next to the hotel, you can see the Catete Palace Gardens, perfect place for a walk and for children’s entertainment. And in less than 10 minutes you can reach Copacabana and a bit further you reach Ipanema, the finest beaches in the city.
