We knew it was clean!

Reception were polite on check-in, but unwilling to point out any services they provided except breakfast.
we knew it was clean by the suffocation caused by the room door opening. with all the windows open for three days we almost managed to clear the smell.
the room was clean, but the walls were slightly damp so the heating was on full blast to compensate. it took two days to figure out how to turn it off.
the night receptionists were frankly disbelieving when we queried any of these matters & instead of investigating, handed us a can of aerosol room freshener, which would have completed the suffocation if used. we didn't approach the daytime receptionist for anything, after overhearing several phone calls and one of the staff being chewed out.
the location was great! as was the price for london.
the waiting staff were very friendly and also doubled as chambermaids.
the breakfast was full english & included in the price. unfortunately one solid egg,one slice of bacon & one spoonful of beans, isn't my idea of full english breakfast. admittedly i did get 2 slices of toast with butter & jam, coffee and orange squash. i did see some foreign families being given cornflakes for the children but didn't notice if they then got the rest too. they were very willing to keep our luggage for us on departure day whilst we finished our sightseeing.
i can heartily recommend a nearby restaurant called shakers, just to the right up the road from paddington tube station.
