The hotel was originally opened in 1865 and is now a Grade 2 listed building of historic and architectural interest.It was totally refurbished in empathy with the Victorian building, retaining original features such as cove ceilings. interior has been restored to a very high standard.

The hotel has 80 luxury bedrooms and suites, beautifully appointed and furnished with the finest furniture and fabrics. All have cable TV, telephone, safety deposit box, trouser press, bathrobes and are fully air-conditioned.
Restaurant
There are two superb restaurants, which has held a Michelin star for the last 14 years, is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday. The adjoining Library and Archive are ideal for pre-dinner drinks, morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea. La Brasserie, an informal Parisian style restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. With live music in the evening on most weekends.
