Discover Wetherby

Wetherby is the ideal place to spend a relaxing vacation in the West Yorkshire, in the centre of the tringle Leeds-Harrogate-York.
Thanks to the optimal position, you can easily and quickly reach the cities of Leeds and York, which are about 19 km/12 miles from Wetherby, while Harrogate is 12 km/8 miles away.
Originally it was the city where people travelling from Edinburg and London in the past centuries used to stop; today Wetherby is a nice city that has lots to offer to its visitors.

What to see in Wetherby

In the historical centre of Wetherby there are several buildings of historical interest, marked with a blue tag.

Among such buildings are: the Brunswick House, built in 1824 as a couch and horses shelter; the Georgian Bath House, built more than 200 years ago; and the Wetherby Town Hall, which was built in 1845 and used as a courthouse until 1960.

The Shambles is also historically interesting: the building was built in 1811 upon the Duke of Devonshire’s command. It used to be a covered market where farmers could sell their products. Today, The Shambles host some independent shops.

Speaking about must-see churches, you can’t miss St. Joseph’s Church: founded in 1872, it won an award for its peculiar architecture in 1987. The Wetherby Parish Church is another important local church: the oldest part of the building dates back to 1839. Before school became mandatory for everyone, this was the place for teaching school to kids whose parents couldn’t afford proper education.

You can’t miss a walk along the Wharfe River, which runs across the city of Wetherby. In the centre of the city there are several shops, restaurants, and places where you can enjoy a good tea or coffee.
