Great location!

Great location very neat covent gardens. hotel was very large but it never felt that way. room was small but everything we needed for a comfortable stay. staff were friendly and accommodating. we ate in daawat which is attached to the hotel and the food was amazing. very comprehensive breakfast buffet and not the wait i had expected at the busiest time. a very pleasant stay and would definitely visit again.

Stayed here at the strand for two nights. we had been before but our friends hadn't, they really enjoyed it. everything was really very good. staff were friendly ,rooms very clean. we also got upgraded to a kingsized bed. really near to covent garden, west end theatres, tube and the river was only a short walk away. would definitely stay here again. finished our weekend off with a lovely afternoon tea at the strand too.

A very nice stay

One of the nicest stays i have had in a long while, we were upgraded to an executive room which was massive and everything you could need, reception was great with a luggage room for early and late leaving, a very good tourist information dedicated person, the location was great, you could walk to a lot of sights, a bus stop outside and the nice guy on the info counter will tell you what number bus to get the only point i would drop it by is the sausages were awful at breakfast but that's the only negative on a very nice stay

Small room

When booking double room there was no indication it would be such a small room that the bed was tight against the wall so that bed entry for one person was by clambering over the other occupant or crawling across.

Another great stay at strand palace hotel

Our sixth stay at strand palace hotel. the location of this hotel is unbeatable in london and the club rooms have always been to our liking and are very clean. the staff are always friendly and most helpful. there is no air con so the rooms can become very warm in the summer months but we were there during the heatwave and with the help of the fan in the room we managed quite well. a small refrigerator in the room would be a plus. otherwise the rooms are well equipped.

Excellent hotel!

We had a two night stay at the strand palace hotel from 21 sept 2012. the facilities were significantly better than those in other hotels in a similar price band. the room was a good size and was clean and well presented. we opted to have breakfast which was excellent and good value for money. the hotel is in an excellent situation close to covent garden but the downside to this is that it is quite noisy outside. we didn't find this to be a huge problem, however it may be for light sleepers...pack some earplugs! there is some building work going on outside the hotel at the moment, which is mentioned on the hotel website. we weren't inconvenienced by this at all.

Strand palace hotel review

Hotel very central and welcoming. club roon which wasn't the cheapest was very small and only had a shower but we upgraded @ £40.00 perday to much larger with bath with added advantage that we got 10% off everything charged to the room, free breakfast, free newspaper, bowl of fruit, bath robes, free water and use of multimedia for 24/7 which seemed reasonable! breakfast was good. plenty of choice of hot and cold. evening meals in the carvery were excellent especially the 3 courses for £17.95 where the hors d'oeuvres were excellent. johnson's, another eating outlet, however was not so good! service dreadful. very handy to lincoln's inn, royal courts of justice and theatres to the east and trafalgar square etc to the west. covemt garden just to the north.

I was visiting london with my 6 year old grand daughter, the strand palace hotel was in a perfect location for the sites and the theatre we were visiting. the room was comfortable and clean very very hot. check in was very very slow, i felt we wasted a lot of time here. long queue for breakfast, had to wait quite some time before we were seated which meant we hadn't enough time to enjoy the very good breakfast that was available.

Good hotel for theatreland, covent garden or the west end in general. as a business traveler, although the single room was a bit small, it had everything i needed...except air conditioning. that is my only fault with this hotel, which i have stayed at many times over several years; in the summer the rooms are hot. the hotel is clean and the staff are polite and helpful. i always book this hotel via an agency so the price per night is reasonable.

Excellent value in london

Very central, close to covent garden and most of theate land. we had a clean and practical though not luxurious room. lots of little bottles of nice smelling toiletries! it was quiet, apart from the seagulls shortly after dawn! breakfast was ok. i've definitely had better but there were a reasonable amount of options to choose from so you could always find an alternative to the runny scrambled egg! didn't eat further in the hotel or take any further services but it provided an excellent base for our whistle stop trip to the capital!

Ideal for theatreland

We used this hotel for a one night stay to visit the city and see oliver! check in was quick and the receptionist very friendly and efficient. the room was spotless, comfortable and recently renovated. we faced out onto the strand, but the window had shutters which filtered out most of the noise outside. we ordered room service, the bagette & fries was excellent but predictably expensive at £10 each, but the order was taken with the minimum of fuss and delivered quicker than the quoted half hour. our breakfast experience was the only disappointing thing about our stay, we left it until 9.45 but still had to queue for about quarter of an hour to get a table at the carvery. the food was acceptable, plenty of choice, but our table had been quickly cleared away from its previous occupants and we were not given fresh milk or condiments - we had to ask to have these replenished. check out was quick and painless, and an hour after we left the hotel my husband realised he had left his keys on the bedside table. we rang the hotel, and by the time we made it back, they had them on reception ready for him to collect - minimum of fuss! have used this hotel before, would definately use it again, only 5 minutes walk away from theatre royal drury lane, ideal if you are visiting to see oliver! after the show we walked around covent garden, just behind the hotel - fab location!

Fleecing the customer

Good hotel in impressive location, london eye / river, covent garden, trafalgar sq, st paul's, westminster all within walking distance. rooms clean, we stayed in "club rooms" quite expensive but no fridge and poor ventilation. restaurant was deserted in the evening but service was attentive. one nasty habit of theirs is to add an "optional service charge" in the small print, and being a natural gentleman i gave a gratuity on top only realising my error much later when i scrutinised the restaurant bill to realise i had been duped into tipping twice. the staff of course just quietly took the money. diners be warned, strike out the optional gratuity and get revenge on my behalf by not tipping at all! many other vibrantly busy restaurants are nearby. i have stayed at the strand palace hotel before and will again but next time with a keen eye on the above issue which i shall remember. tony luxton

An established hotel in a superb location for tourists. located on strand, right opposite the savoy, covent garden is only minutes away by foot. tube station is less than 10 min walk away and busses pass right in front of the hotel. standard rooms are not large but are clean and perfectly adequate for a central london hotel - lack of space may not suit young families. there are a number of reasonably priced eating places within easy reach, should you not wish to use the hotel restaurant. all told, a great deal that i would recommend to friends!

This is the second time i have stayed in the strand palace. the first time was a bit scary as the hotel door was jammed but we were moved efficiently to an alternative one. this time the room was one of the ones which had not been renovated so was a bit grubby in the shower. this was due to the window being part of the splash back for the shower and therefore it was mouldy and dirty. apart from this all was just fine apart from perhaps the tv not being particularly easy to use but then who goes to london to watch tv? location is perfect, staff were great, doorman was friendly and helpful and i would definitely stay there again as it is one of the most reasonably priced hotels in central london.

London hotel with good location

I stay at this hotel every year and have done for the last 10 years or so. the hotel's location is excellent, you can walk to covent garden, soho etc in only 5-10 minutes. i stayed in a twin room on the first floor, the room was very clean but i do think the hotel rooms are in need of refurbishing. the carpet outside our room was threadbare and so i also think a new carpet would not go amiss. this has still not put me off this hotel and i will be goingback next year.

My stay at the strand palace london

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times as i visit london and stay for at least one night.i have always found the staff pleasant and helpful. there can sometimes be a delay on checking in/out if there is a sudden influx of people but this situation is reacted too quite quickly with other staff being brought in to help. the rooms are clean and the facilities provided are good although it did take me a while to find the hairdryer on my first visit. supplies for tea/coffee making facilities are easily and quickly obtained. have had to comment on business services although have never used them.

Overnight stay to see joseph

Hotel booked for its location near theatre. this proved very useful. room only average, no air conditioning - only a fan provided - but as window could not be opened at night due to traffic noise and road repairing noise in the morning there was no air coming in to be circulated! a very uncomfortably hot, airless, sleepless night! at 10pm asked at reception for some fresh milk for coffee (only uht type milk provided in room- and i cannot drink that) told it would be sent to room staight away. it had not arrived half an hour later so on visit to reception - told it would come immediately, eventually i was provided with milk....3 plastic uht type containers!! told there was no fresh milk available in the hotel!!! spoke to reception who told me to ring housekeeping which i did and.... small jug of fresh milk delivered to room!!! communication problem and/or staff training problem? breakfast poor quality and very noisy unrelaxing dining area with very frenetic organising staff.

Strand palace - review

Each time i stay at the strand palace, i am delighted at improvements made. on my latest visit this month, i noticed it was even better than earlier this year. i am referring to the level of service and the general ambience in particular. the current refurbishment is not yet complete (there is no disturbance from any work being carried out), so i anticipate that the decor in the bedroom corridors will improve. from what, some years ago, was quite a basic level of accommodation, it now rivals any 3 star hotel in london. the hotel always offered good value for money and with hotelsclick, it still does.

Watch out for nails in the coat hangers!

The room was disappointing, compared to those offered on previous stays at this hotel. the room's decor was old fashioned and worn looking- the lighting inadequate, the bathroom had a grubby looking shower curtain, and some regrouting was required on the tiling. breakfast was ok, but nothing better. there was a reasonable selection of foods, but there was a long queue for a table, and the service was virtually non existent- we were brought milk for our coffee around 10 minutes after the coffe pot had been unceremoniously dumped on the table. most disappointing of all was that when packing to leave, we realised that a coat hanger in the wardrobe had a nail sticking out of it, which had damaged the item of clothing on the hanger. we took the item and the hanger to the manager who refused to compensate for the full cost of replacing the item, which incidentally, had been worn only once, offering a 'standard £20' for our inconvenience, even though the item originally cost double that. we have stayed at this hotel on several previous occasions, but will not revisit after this experience.

In the 2 years since i was last here, the hotel has had a makeover. the reception area is very attractive and, at least on my visit, very efficient. the corridors seem to have been re-decorated, and the rooms fitted with new tvs and wi-fi connections. if you like an early or late breakfast, things seem to run well. but, between 8.30 & 9.30, the queues really build up. but, to me, it's the location that sells this hotel. if you want plush, pay more. if you want cheap, there are many cheaper hotels. this is a good, tourist class, (3 star), place to enjoy a stay.

Convenient location

Hotel is central - just down the road from trafalgar square and within easy access to tube for getting around. nearest tube station charing cross. we stayed on saturday night and my only disappointment was that we had to queue to get into the carvery restaurant for breakfast the next morning. the restaurant manager however was very jolly and efficient in getting people seated as soon as tables became available. breakfast was average and as you would expect for a big hotel and there was plenty of choice. the room was small but clean and had everything you need and i would stay there again.

Strand palace - excellent value, great location - can't be beaten

We were a little concerned before our stay as had read some bad reviews about this hotel however, i have to say fortunately our stay at the strand was excellent. when checking in i asked for a quiet room as had an important exam the next day, we were upgraded to a club room for no extra cost and although it overlooked the the strand we were on the 8th floor so noise wasn't too bad. the room was small (thats london!) but clean, stylish and comfortable. the only blip was the toilet seat which had a mind of its own! location for us was perfect and we could walk everywhere. the breakfast which was included in our price was fantastic. a huge buffet of both hot and cold breakfast choice - you certainly wouldn't leave hungry! despite previous reviews saying staff were unfriendly we didnt find this the case, in fact everyone we spoke went out of their way to make us feel welcome. we would certainly recommend this hotel to friends/family and stay again.

New year 2007/8

We visited london to celebrate the new year and chose the strand palace mainly for it's location close to the embankment for the new year's eve fireworks.the hotel is in a prime spot for sightseeing and theatres but the bedrooms are rather worn and in need of refurbishment. having said that we had a great time with friendly staff and an excellent breakfast and the added bonus of walking off the embankment into the hotel bar whilst others crowded into the rail and tube stations to make their way home after the fireworks.

Our stay at the strand palace hotel, london

The greeting we received when we arrived was very welcoming, and the hotel foyer was extremely nice and spacious. our room, however, was very disappointing. upon entering our room, it was freezing cold - the window had been left open, but there was still a musty smell in the air. as it was so cold, we went to turn on the radiator, but it was broken. there was a small portable one infront of it, but the dial on this was also broken, so it was either 'on' or 'off'. the bathroom was very dated, and one day, our toilet became blocked, and wouldn't flush properly. my partner spoke to reception, and they were very helpful, and arranged for someone from hotel maintenance to come up to our room, while we went out for a while. however, upon our return, the toilet was still blocked, and my partner again had to contact reception. the hotel maintenance said that they had not received a previous call from reception, although my partner was at reception when the receptionist made the call earlier in the evening! it was however sorted following his second visit to reception. on a plus side, the hotel staff were extremely friendly, and the buffet breakfasts were very nice. we did enjoy our stay at the strand palace hotel, but were extremely disappointed with our room.

Strand palace - december 2007

To me, unless you pay for a top end hotel, the rooms are pretty similar and this is by no means a 5-star hotel. however, location wise, you are right next to covent garden with its fantastic restaurants, pubs, street entertainment and most famously - the market itself! over the road from the hotel is a pub called the 'coal hole' and i would recommend a pint or two in there as it's one of the most beautiful pubs i've ever been in. the breakfast at the hotel is brilliant whatever it is you like to eat and the restaurant and whole bar and downstairs area is very modern and clean. i hope you enjoy your stay as much as my wife and i did.....have fun!

Strand palace stay

the strand palace is in one of the most convenient locations in central london. it is particularly good for access to theatres. buses, cabs are easily obtained at the hotel door. the hotel is very large and undergoiing refurbishmwent. the foyer is small but has comfortable seating. the corridors giving access to the rooms are looking very tired with old and worn carpets. the refurbished club rooms are well appointed with flat screen tvs, internet access, a safe and good bathrooms. some of the rooms are very small with no outlook except on to inner courtyards which are depressing. i would not want to stay there more than one or two nights. the quality of the rooms which have not been refurbished is poor. club rooms are expensive. the breakfast is buffet style and has a good choice and efficient service.

Stranded in london

I have stayed at this hotel twice now while on business and the single rooms are fine (i work for a university) although a bit on the small side. the hotel is ok for the price paid and at least breakfast is included. my only real complaint about the hotel is the traffic noise. i neglected to bring ear plugs the first time but didn't the second thankfully as i was on the 7th floor and the noise was far worse than when i had stayed on the 3rd. i would recommend some good double/triple glazing for the rooms at the front of the hotel as the traffic never seems to stop even during the night. if you plan to stay here ask for a room at the back.

Strand palace - an excellent place to stay

My sister and i stayed at the strand palace for one night on 5.10.07 as we had booked tickets for joseph which is at the adelphi - a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. the location of the hotel is excellent - a short walk to covent garden, leicester square and piccadilly. there are plenty of places to eat and drink nearby as well as the bars and restaurants at the hotel. on arrival i was told we had been upgraded to a recently refurbished club room. the room was lovely - spacious and with new furnishings and linens. the lobby of the hotel is large and bright and the staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful. breakfast was buffet style with hot and cold food and the maitre'd was very efficient in getting people seated quickly. the only downside to the hotel was the traffic noise during the night from the strand. you do get used to it eventually but next time i'll take ear plugs. i would definitely recommend this hotel and i will stay here again with no hesitation.

Great location.

You can't get a better location than this one. to be able to walk to many of the west end theatres, as well as piccadilly, leicester square and covent garden makes this hotel so convenient. while the standard rooms are a bit tired looking now, and some, but not all of the single rooms are on the small side in common with most london hotels, they are clean and have everything you need. you have to bear in mind that because this hotel is situated in the strand, you tell get quite a lot of traffic and other noise, especially with rooms at the front, but that's what you expect in such a central location. breakfast is plentiful, though i would advise getting up early to avoid the rush and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing breakfast, and staff are helpful and always available.

I chose this hotel specifically for its location. i had booked to the evening performance of the new production of joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat on 14 july 2007. i travelled alone so the hotel location was perfect after the performance had finished as both the theatre and the hotel are located on the strand. the hotel was clean, friendly and the service excellent. my only criticism is that the hotel room could have been decorated and furnished better. however, as this was only a standard class room maybe i’m being picky. i have stayed at this hotel in the past and would return again. hotelsclick.com was excellent and offered the best price i could find and the price included breakfast. i would most definitely use hotelsclick.com again.

Nice hotel.....disappointed with availability of late room!

Have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions due to the superb location. however on arrival at 12 o'clock we were told to come back after 2p.m. for check-in, which we expected. we came back to the hotel at 6 o'clock to be told that our room was still not ready. we have an evening engagement and were anxious to get into our room to be ready for this. receptionist took her time and eventually found us another room. i would definitely think twice about staying here again. to be told that our room was still not ready at such a late time was disgraceful.

Lovely stay at strand palace

We had an excellent stay at the strand palace in july 2007. very nice reception area and exceptionally helpful staff. at peak breakfast time there was a short queue but we didn't have to wait long. staff in restaurant very helpful. bedrooms and all areas were clean although the bedroom had too much furniture for the size of the room. friends who had an upgrade to a club room had a much larger room. overall we had an excellent stay right in the centre of london at reasonable cost. thanks hotel click for providing this excellent hotel at a very good price.

Large, busy, dated and lacks frills

The room was dated and despite being on the seventh floor there was lots of road noise from outside (but this was central london). biggest gripe was the complete absence of warm or even tepid water in the morning - i guess the hoardes of us teenagers staying there beat me to it. had to boil a kettle to get warm water to shave. breakfast room chaotic, but one restaurant was closed for refurbishment. the only saving graces were the price and location. reception staff seemed busy but lacked warmth. foyer crowded with tour groups.

Eurostar stopover

Chose hotel for location beteen late arrival at waterloo on eurostar & departure next morning from euston. not how i remembered it from an earlier stay about 5 years ago when everyone was extremely helpful, kind and courteous! room was tiny, whilst freshly painted and clean, smell of paint was so unbearable i would have asked to be moved except it was so late and my child was too tired. i ended up with a headache from the paint odour and believe the room should have been aired before they used it for guests. the check-in queue, even at 9.30 pm, was reminiscent of disneyland queues! no record of our booking, some confusion over rooms required the receptionist to "go in the back" and sort it out, so she told us! we had no idea what was going on, but it was most unwelcoming. despite explaining numerous times personally to the hotel that my child was in a wheelchair, the room was so tiny, i had to dismantle the chair, move the hotel chair, and stand my case upright in order to have space to move about. admittedly, i was advised that it wasn't a fully accessible room, but did not mind not having a disabled bathroom due to such a late arrival. however, this room should never have been given to someone in a wheelchair. i had to phone three times before someone helped me with my luggage, despite them knowing i was pushing a wheelchair. my son drinks milk at night, which cost £2.50 for a small glass from the bar, and which i myself carried back to the room!

Very disorganised!!!!

Put it this way - i felt so strongly about the check-in service and the dire way our booking was handled, i complained. we booked through hotelsclick who were great and dealt promptly with the queries i had before our stay. when we arrived at the hotel, we were allocated 1 twin room and9 singles instead of the pre-booked 5 twins and 1 single. the check-in staff were rude and we had a 2-hour wait until we were finally allocated our single rooms. we were told that these would be put together - a lie - our rooms were split between the eighth floor, fifth floor, fourth floor and second floor. as compensation for the mix-up, we were told we would be upgraded - another lie just to get us to shut up!!! once away from the initial customer entrance, the rooms are very small and very basic.

Theatre break

Initial impressions were good. hotel was clean and bright and reception staff were efficient, and we were soon booked in. the room was clean and comfortable, although the mattress was a bit 'tired' and sloped to the middle just a little, having said that, i slept 'like a log'. although i forgot to ask for a quiet room, we were given a room at the back of the hotel, and we could not hear any of the 24x7 traffic noise that you often get in london. we went down for breakfast at 9:00 and there was a queue for admission to the dining room, however we only waited a couple of minutes and were quickly seated, as the staff did appear to appreciate that a queue was building and dealt with this quickly. although our hotel voucher said 'continetal breakfast included", there was no differene in the breakfast arrangements at the hotel and we could have had a 'full english breakfast" if we had wanted to. the concierge service was excellent, friendly, helpful and efficient, and we we even able to buy out daily travel pass for the tube. you can also get theatre tickets, tickets for the london eye etc. this hotel is idealy situated for the theatres many of which are in walking distance. as we were also doing a little site seeing the next day, we arranged to leave our luggage, for which there is a charge of £2 per item. this hotel was recommended to me by a friend, and i would happily stay there again.

This hotel does not have enough restaurant space to serve the hotel at breakfast which means that, if you want the breakfast which is included in your room rate, you have to be prepared to queue in reception for up to half an hour. we checked in at 1pm and, having waited 20 minutes, were told that, because our room wasn't ready, we'd have to come back and wait again. why they couldn't simply check us in and hold our luggage i have no idea. i wouldn't reccommend this hotel to my worst enemy.

Excellent base for a week of tourism in london

I have given this hotel a four-star rating for practically all categories. it wouldn't be classed as a four star quite but i'd say definitely a high end 3-star. reception, and indeed all the staff i came into contact with were friendly and professional and couldn't be faulted. my single room was smallish but totally adequate for my needs - i was here as a tourist for 7 nights - had plenty of drawer space and a decent built-in wardrobe, a desk and chair, cimfortable bed with nice pillows, was clean and nicely decorated with superior door handles, lamps etc. the en-suite bathroom was very nicely laid out and though not big in dimensions seemed quite spacious and had a very nice suite. i tend to shower at night rather than the morning and there was always very hot water available with shower gel and facewash cream provided. towels were nice and fresh and the room was cleaned well every day. there were also tea and coffee making facilities in the room. there was a decent self-service breakfast in the morning with plenty of hot coffee and at night a couple of decent restaurants to opt for if not going out. centrally located along the strand close to charing cross station, i was extremely satisfied with the hotel and will definitely stay there again.
