What To See in Majorca
Palma de Majorca
You surely cannot miss a visit to Palma de Majorca, the capital. Here are many interesting sites such as the Gothic cathedral, the Royal Palace of La Almudaina (an Islamic castle turned into a royal residence), the Arab Baths.
Besides its equipped beaches, Palma de Majorca is also known for its bright nightlife. This city is home to many trendy clubs, discos and shops (especially around Gomila and El Terreno). Shops selling traditional products and elegant clubs can also be found in the centre, along Passeig des Born, the most famous street in own.
Beaches
Beaches in Majorca are really outstanding and can satisfy all your needs. On one side you have the mountain, the Sierra de Tramuntana leading directly to the sea and on the other side of the island are the most hidden beaches and coves. Along the Northern coast, from East to West, you can find many crowded and equipped beaches with any type of service while on the Southern Coast, anywhere you go, you can find both crowded beaches and hidden coves for more privacy.
The Formenton Cape Lighthouse
Located on a rocky point, the lighthouse is on the Northern end of the Sierra de Tramuntana and the landscape around it leaves tourists breathless.
The parks
Among the oldest parks in the island we recommend the Albufera Reserve, a marshy area of great environmental value, the Cabrera Archipelago National Park is home of an important ecological variety and il Mondragò Natural Park, with its beaches and coral marine deposits.
Grottoes
There are many grottoes that can be visited in the island, some of which have really surreal landscapes. Amongst the most famous ones are the Grottoes of the Dragon in the Portocristo area. Here is Lake Martel, one of the biggest subterranean lakes in the world. Do not miss the outstanding landscapes of the Artà Grottoes, in the South-East part of the island, and Hams Grottoes, inhabited by crustaceans that are extinct anywhere else in the world.
Traditional villages
They absolutely deserve a visit. Villages like Estellencs, Valdemossa or Deià are famous for keeping their old mediaeval structure.
