Location
Maravao, where this pousada is located has been considered as a fortified mountain stronghold reminiscent of Obidos, but on a smaller scale and not so commercialised. Close to the Spanish border, it has been a fortress since roman times, many artefacts can still be found nearby. The 13th century walls and ramparts remain but with some 17th century modifications.
