Marvelous Venice can be reached in 25 minutes by car or, even more conveniently, in 20 minutes by train (Santa Lucia station is right in the center of the city). From here you can walk through narrow streets and small squares, or take the vaporetto that goes through the Grand Canal up to the most famous sites: Rialto Bridge and Saint Mark's. Here the scenery is truly extraordinary, the Square is a gigantic drawing room punctuated by beautiful buildings: The Basilica with its Byzantine cupolas, the Ducal Palace, of delightful gothic architecture, and the colonnade of the Procuratie portico where you will find the Correr Museo Civico, the venue for important temporary exhibits, and Biblioteca Marciana, which houses very old manuscripts and the very first printed books. Treviso, a fascinating medieval town with 16th-century wall fortification, is only a half hour drive away. A city on the water at the confluence of two rivers, mentioned by Dante in the famous verse from the Divine Comedy “...where the Sile and the Cagnan rivers meet...” and where the Dante bridge now straddles one of its most suggestive points. The historic heart can be found in Piazza dei Signori, to which the Palazzo della Signoria gives. Also worth visiting, the nearby Loggia dei Cavalieri, Casa dei Carraresi, the location of prestigious art exhibitions, the medieval San Francesco and San Nicolò churches and Pescheria with its charming houses on the water. The ruins of Altino, a bustling Roman commercial center dating back to the 1st century, one of the most important in the Northern Adriatic, are still visible today in the important archeological site less than 10 minutes from Borgo Cà dei Sospiri. It is part of the National Archaeological Museum where important everyday life objects and funeral apparel from the period are kept.
