Parma is the capital of the province in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Between the Apennines and the Po Valley, the city is crossed by a tributary of the Po, the stream of Parma, and Baganza.The city of Parma, like other cities of the region, Bologna, Piacenza and Modena, are rich in works of art, historical monuments and buildings that tell the story of the civil architecture Italian, as well as the many religious buildings. The city of Parma was the capital of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza, between 1545 and 1859, and it was home of oldest university. The Cathedral is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture in Italy.
