You get what you pay for

Not a 4* hotel. it has a run down feel to it.
booked a twin room, it was 2 single beds side by side like a double bed. very little space in the room to change this around.
the room in general was very badly laid out. storage was poor (was staying for 7 nights)
the shower and the sink did not drain properly. this was reported to reception twice but nothing was done about it.
when booking the bus transfer to airport, reception booked it for the wrong time on the wrong day (this didn't matter in the end as we just brought the rented car to the airport)
the bar and reception and dining room are are very close together, it felt very cramped.
not a great food menu. had lunch one day. had sat in the dining area next to the bar but because we were ordering from the a la carte menu, they asked us to move 15 feet and sit in the bar area? made no sense. there was only 4 other tables in use at the time.
not as close to city centre as they claim but a very acceptable walking distance.
if you are doing 'touristy' tours it is fine as most operators will pick you up at your hotel and shuttle you to the departure point.
the facility for booking tours in the hotel is good.

Unsatisfactory

When we arrived at the reception, we informed the personnel that we would be away on a tour and would miss one breakfast that we had already paid for. we asked whether we could swap it for dinner and were told that it was fine,we would only have to pay approximately isk 2000 each to upgrade for dinner. this was confirmed by two receptionists. we went ahead and had dinner.

after finishing, we went to pay but the restaurant staff told us that it was not possible to do this for dinner. this was only possible with lunch. she said she would speak to the restaurant manager and would also make a note on the receipt.

upon checking out, we were told that we would have to pay for the full cost of the dinner for the four of us. we were very disappointed because we missed a breakfast and had to pay the full price for dinner. the information given to us by the two receptionists was misleading.
