Discover Cayo Coco

Cayo Coco Island is situated on the northern coast of Cuba, in the province of Ciego de Ávila. This wild island is known worldwide for its beautiful beaches and the luxury resorts. Cayo Coco is part of the Jardines del Rey archipelago, which is part of a bigger archipelago: Sabana-Camagüey.

Cayo Coco is the second biggest island of the Jardines del Rey archipelago after Cayo Romano. Vegetation constitutes about 85% of the island, which hosts over 200 species of birds and a huge colony of flamingos. This small reef island is perfect for snorkeling and observing the barrier reef with its multitude of sponges, corals, and gorgonacea. Moreover, the clear water allows watching angelfish, mantas, rays, and big groupers in their natural habitat.

The main beaches in Cayo Coco

The most beautiful beaches in Cayo Coco are located in the northern part of the island and they are famous for a reason: they resemble an Eden garden, with fine, white sand, palm trees, mangroves, and crystal clear water.

Among the most famous beaches in Cayo Coco are:

- Playa Larga: it's one of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Cayo Coco, with almost two miles of fine, white sand. The beach goes from Punta Rasa up to the Penón de Las Coloradas area. There is also a spectacular traditional restaurant near the shore.

- Playa de Los Flamencos: this beach is located at east of Punta del Cuerno, and it provides one of the best views of the Caribbean because of the crystal clear water and the water games that you can try.

- Playa de Las Coloradas: Fidel Castro chose this beach to land in Cuba. It's located in the western part of Cayo Coco, and it stretches for about 1.5 miles, surrounded by the magnificent National Park of El Bagà.

How to get to Cayo Coco

A 17 miles above-sea highway connects Cayo Coco to the mainland. In certain spots near the mainland, you can spot flamingos near the road. There is also an airport on the island: Jardines del Rey (Aeropuerto Jardines del Rey), where many tourists land coming from Europe and Canada in order to get easy access to Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco. A narrow stripe of land connects the two islands.
