Broken bed and mosquitoes

I greatly regret for choosing a "cheap-ish" hotel. we were only staying for 1 night and the location was great. it s right across the square from the train station so it s quite good if you re taking the train. but it was miles away from the shops so if you re doing lots of shopping it s not that great.

first impressions: queing up to check in the receptionist was so rude. we were not impressed. someone before us tried to pay for parking with his local chip and pin card and she refused to take it, they could only accept cash for parking so he had to go and find a cash machine.

then on the way up to the room, everything seemed clean but dated and worn out.
our room. there was a stain o the bed cover. we quickly took it off the bed. then it made squeeking noise, when looking at the side, the panel had a big crack, it was broken. the tv had a lot of channels though and for that the room gets 1 star more. it also had a kettle which was great but did nt dare to touch considering everything else was so unclean.

bathroom, i had a shower and the shower cap was sewn the wrong shape so it did nt fit, and i have a small head. also the shower was nt built properly so you get a complete wet floor.

then sleeping, despite being so close to the train station you can t hear trains but you can hear noisy holiday makers. it was a friday night but there is no need for that. note that we had our window shut and there was no aircon and it had been over 30 degrees that day. when finally managed to go to sleep i woke up after being bitten by mosquitoes.

breakfast, going down to the basement it felt like going for a school dinner with the noise and the interiors. the muesli was great everything else was nt worth trying. the eggs were cold and way overcooked, my yoke had a weird discolour making it look as if it had gone off. the bread was edible but like foam.

we left out luggage at the hotel after checking out as we were taking the train in the evening. when coming back i tried going to the toilet and turns out you had to pay for it even if as a hotel stayer.

overall, i would not recommend this hotel to anyone. the price was quite low but i have stayed in way better hotels for this price.

Agora hotel perfect for city break

I stayed in room 803 on the top floor of the agora hotel for 1 night in early december 2007 on a city break with a friend. we arrived in antwerp by train at 12 midday and were able to check-in straight away. the room was modern in appearance, smart and very clean. there were tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a fantastic flat screen tv with many channels including bbc 1.

the hotel location is excellent; it is in the square in front of antwerp central station. the city and the main tourists sites are within easy walking distance of the hotel. for sites further a field there are bus and tram stops within close proximity of the hotel, which provide easy connection with all parts of the city.

breakfast was served in the basement of the hotel and there was an ample choice of continetal breakast items to eat such as pastries, meats, salads, bread, juice, cereals and fresh fruit. there was also a good selection of drinks including coffee, fruit juices and a variety of flavoured teas.

overall, a great value hotel, which is ideally located to explore the city. i would definitely stay at this hotel again if i visit antwerp again and as such, have no problems in highly recommending it.
