Heron Island lies on the Tropic of Capricorn, 72 kms north-east, off the coast from Gladstone from central Queensland. The flight time from Brisbane to Gladstone is approximately 80 minutes. There is a courtesy coach which departs from Gladstone airport daily at 10:30 am to Gladstone Marina to connect with the Heron Island airconditioned launch, which takes 2 hours.

The rooms are medium in size. The tiled floors and tropical, bright colours create the perfect holiday atmosphere. The bedrooms and bathrooms are in good condition (renovated in 2001).
Shearwater Restaurant is on the ground floor level and ajoins the pool area. The Pandanus Lounge and Bar caters for light snacks and provides nightly entertainment.
