Seedy and snobby
Bad experience start to finish. we arrived amid a swarm of rumpled yet arrogant businessmen, one of whom cooly cut our place in line. we had to ask for a cot for our son 3 times, and it finally arrived via an annoyed and sweaty guy who inexplicably got blood all over the sheets (but left them on, so we had to call again to have them replaced).
the pool was closed, seemingly due to some long-term problem that should have been marked on the reservation. the gym was run by some company other than the hilton, filled with "trainers", meatheads, and business singles looking for some pre-bar action.
the only outdoor space was a rundown soccer field where we were stared at by the aforementioned gym personnel.
our key cards didn't work, and i relieved some comically bad front desk service from a clerk named francesco who refused to believe me (ok, let me just go try 20 more times and then i'll come back?) and then made a show of granting me an "additional" card. i would have been livid except by that point everything was making me laugh.
the food was mediocre and expensive, which i expected but after our amazing trip (after all, we were still in italy!) felt like insult to injury.
we couldn't even drown our sorrows, because our mini bar was empty and the hotel bar was under siege from more sketchy singles.
wether you're a couple like us, or a business traveler, do not do this to yourself! get another hotel and fork over some cab fare to get to the airport.
