Portovenere, the "pearl" of Liguria, is located on the west part of the Gulf of Poets. In 1997 it was added together with the surrounding islands and the Cinque Terre to the list of Unesco World Heritage. In this beautiful old town with its colorful houses, its views over the harbor, the Cape Pietro and the caves carved by the sea, the time seems to stand still.From the small port you can reach the Cinque Terre by boat in just 30 minutes. On foot you can also take the 10 km path that leads to Riomaggiore (the first village of the Cinque Terre).
