Spacious Georgian 3 Bedroom John Wood Townhouse

  5 Pierrepont Place - BA1 1JX - Bath, Gran Bretagna Vedi mappa

Built in 1748 by John Wood the Elder, the architect famous for Bath's Royal Circus and Queen Square, John Wood Townhouse is a stone's throw from the Abbey, Roman Baths, Thermal Spa, train station, and high street, 4 minutes' level walk from the train, bus and coach station and 2 minutes' walk from a taxi rank. Despite being in the very centre of the city, Pierrepont Place is a quiet cobbled street. We really hope every guest feels at home and endeavour to make them as comfortable as possible. The Space:Numbers 1-5 Pierrepont Place were built over the course of four years, with number 1, Linley House, commissioned by the distinguished composer Sir Thomas Linley for his daughters to live in. Gainsboroughs portraits of these two beauties, renowned musicians in their day, hang in the Dulwich Picture Gallery, London. It is rumoured that their maid was the concubine of a certain Admiral Lord Nelson, whom she no doubt met in secret in the shared garden at the rear of the house, visible through your bedroom window. The en-suite bathroom of the Four Poster Suite lies beneath the chapel of the Masonic Hall next door, so dont be disturbed if you hear organ pipes and singing from above whilst bathing in the wondrous circular bath...5 Pierrepont Place was built in 1748 on a plot within the former orchard of Bath Abbey. Next door stands the Masonic Hall, which originally was the first Theatre Royal outside London. The Masons acquired this house in 1809 and it then changed hands for the first time since when we bought the place 200 years later. Luckily, and rather uniquely, we have what must be a complete paper trail history of the building, which is displayed in the Hall. John Wood The Elders signature and wax seal adorn the original vellum deeds, which describe in detail how the house was to be built, from citing the source of the stone, through to the colour the windows and front door were to be painted. Subsequent deeds, leases, mortgages and other legal documents plot the house and its inhabitants history over the years right up to the current owners. The Superking Suite was originally the kitchen of the house, there is a fantastic stone fireplace which would have contained the hearth and bread ovens. There is a rooftop terrace however we kindly ask guests to keep the noise down in the evenings and children should always be supervised.Despite being in the very centre of the city, Pierrepont Place is a quiet cobbled street.
