Our freshly renovated traditional Japanese machiya is just five minutes from toufukuji station and temple, one stop from Kyoto station situated in a quaint residential area quiet and magical. We used natural traditional building materials to restore this beautiful house. The local area has great small shops, restaurants, and river. This is a traditional house with 2 floors. 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. one toilet and one bathroom separated from each other. a small kitchen with basic cooking ware for simple meals All the rooms are tatami floors. You will be sleeping on the futons. This house is not suitable for young children and elderlies. Because the house has very steep stairs. Please treat this house as a private residence. We are not a guesthouse. The appliances, fixtures, and floors are designer, expensive, natural, and authentic. For example, the floor is real wood made from chestnut trees. Do not get them wet or they will be damaged. Also tatami require additional care. If either the chestnut flooring or the tatami gets wet, please immediately clean it up with a towel in order to prevent damage. The furniture is old, some pieces are over 130 years old, and it’s expensive. The tea ceremony shelf alone is over $2000. We would be very happy that you and your group can enjoy the fantastic furniture and character our house has to offer, but please do not place glasses on the old furniture or get them wet and allow water stains to form. The neighborhood has convenience stores, grocery stores, small shops, and restaurants near the station, and near the intersection at Kujo Dori across the river. Your neighbors will be elderly Japanese people, so please be very quiet in or outside of the house after 6pm. The closest station is Tofukuji station which has both JR line and Keihan line. Tofukuji station is only one stop away from Kyoto station by JR line where you can change other lines such as Shinkansen. Tofukuji station is only 3 stop away from Gion Shijo station by Keihan line which is the Kyoto down town area, very convenient to go to Gion, Kiyomizu dera, Hanamikoji etc. Tofukuji station is only 10 mins walk from the house. There is a tofukuji bus stop also 10 mins walk from the house. Adult Minimum Age: Apartment has lock box which we will send instructions for 7-14 days prior to each arrival.
