Thoughts on the van der valk

Initially i thought we had made a mistake choosing this hotel ,there were a lot of children running around when we arrived and we thought it would be noisy ,also when we entered our room the carpet was filthy i complained and was offered another room which i decline because it smelt ,we were then offered a newly refurbished rom for the next night which we accepted the room was fine lovely bathroom wish great toiletries .the buffet in the morning was the best i have ever seen or eaten even in a hotel costing twice as much .the staff were excellent and i would certainly recommend this hotel and would stay again even though it's outside amsterdam the shuttle bus is good and free

Amsterdam marathon

Second time at the hotel and it suited me perfectly again. great value: big rooms, free wi-fi (despite what it says in the room information), free shuttle bus to the airport (and connections to city) and breakfast from 5 am. only took 30 minutes to get to the marathon start.

Value for money

I stayed at the schiphol a4 the weekend of the amsterdam marathon and it provided excellent value; the trade off being the distance from the city centre. the rooms were really good and there was a fine breakfast. there was a large tv although i didn't use it much as (a bonus) the wireless internet connection is now free (although there are charges listed in the information book). nice to have the coach service free too as so many places have started to charge for these things. only one thing not good - couldn't order room service without going through reception and at busy times they didn't answer the phone.

Schiphol

Great hotel. great staff and great breakfast. nice pool. my only complaint was that we reserved a triple room but ended up with a twin room with an extra bed in it. when i complained they apologised but said they were fully booked for our first night and offered to change our room after the first night. they could nt have done any more short of chuck someone oout of a room. stil. the hotel and the accomodating nature of the staff was fantastic. i am almost reluctant to rate this hotel in case it gets too popular ha ha ha. excellent

Hotel schipol a4 queensday trip 2008

For our queensday trip this hotel was perfect, the transfer bus from schipol runs so frequently it takes away the hotels location. it takes around 10mins to schipol and 15-20 to amsterdam central. everyone in our party thought the value for money was excellent, the included breakfast was also really well done, 10/10 i couldnt praise the hotel enough, great place to see amsterdam and travel around holland using the excellent train system. 3 uk visitors - who had a fantastic queensday, thank you holland ;-d the a4 and hotelsclick.com

Our stay

A good hotel for the price we paid a little impersonal and finding the pool and sports facilities was difficult, poor signage. breakfast was excellent and the hours would fit just about everyone.alittle nore attention to detail on the cleaning front would have made a vast difference ie clearing old cigarette buts and rubbish from the balconies this gave the impression of the hotel not being cared for. staff were helpfull when asked although a little abrupt.

Fantstic hotel!!!

I stayed at schipol a4 on 31st march 07 with my husband & two chidren age 3 & 9yrs. after arriving in amsterdam it was easy enough to find the train station & catch a train to schipol airport this takes approx 8-10 mins, they run every few minutes from various platforms. once at the airport the free shuttle bus goes directly to the hotel from in front of the airport.(this is well sign-posted, look for shuttle signs)that also only takes about 10 mins however the bus only runs every 40 mins so once you get to the hotel ask them for a timetable. this doesn't cause a problem if you plan your journey times. when we arrived at the hotel at 12noon we were 3hrs early for check in & just wanted somewhere to leave our luggage however the staff were extremely friendly & helpful & let us have our room straight away, fantastic if you've got tired young children with you. the staff were brilliant with the children, chatting & getting them involved in the checking in process. my 9yr old son thought it was great to be involved in such an important process!!! it was also explained at check-in where the pool, restaurant etc were & the times that breakfast & dinner are served. the rooms were lovely & spacious. we had a double bed (2 singles pushed together but didn't bother me at all as they seemed to be a lot bigger than our single beds at home)& a single bed each for the children. the beds were so comfortable i didn't want to leave! we had 2 large windows/doors that led onto balconies with a lovely view of the gardens. room was fully air conditioned & once it turned a little cooler & the heating was switched on it was lovely & warm. the bathroom was huge with a double ended bath, a seperate shower cubicle & lots of freebies in a little gift bag. the only thing missing from the room was tea/coffee making items, no kettle etc but on each floor is a vending machine so it wasn't a great big problem. we used the swimming pool & were offered fresh towels to take with us on our way past reception which was great as we hadn't took any extra towels with us from home. the only warning i would give regarding the pool is there is no shallow end, it's 1.4m all the way across so armbands are definately needed for none swimmers. breakfast was included in our stay & was lovely, with something for everybody's taste. lots of fresh juice, fruit, cereal, meats, cheese, bread, yogurt, eggs, chipolatas, bacon, tea/coffee etc etc etc. well worth paying the extra for. if you don't want to eat in the restaurant over the car park from the hotel is a small complex with lots of eating places. there's kfc, a bbq & grill restaurant, chinese, a sandwich bar & various others so lots of choice. i would definately recomend this hotel. even though it's a little out of the centre of amsterdam it's worth the 20-30mins traveling back & forth. i can't think of anything at all bad to say about the hotel at all. the staff were brilliant, very friendly & made us feel very welcome. we will be staying again on our next visit to amsterdam but we'll certainly stay longer next time.

Hotel

Very nice hotel, a bit outside of town but a free bus is provided to the airport where a 6euro return train to town is available.
