Close to the M6, set in the open countryside of the National Park, The Wild Boar is ideally situated for both business and recreational pursuits. All residents have free use of leisure facilities at the Low Wood Hotel, and Windermere Golf Course is within 1 mile and Lake Windermere just 3 miles.Our conference rooms are situated on the first floor. The Wild Board Room is a bright room with good natural light provides a quiet location for up to 40 delegates. It is air conditioned, has 8-hour chairs . The Winster Room is ideal for smaller meetings and interviews or as a syndicate in conjunction with the main meeting facility.
Exterior
This is a former Coaching Inn and takes its name historically for being close to the site where the local legend Sir Richard de Gilpin bravely fought and killed the last wild boar.
Rooms
The bedrooms in The Wild Boar range from classic to luxury with recently refurbished individually designed feature and luxury grade rooms, that have features such as log burning stoves and copper baths. Perfect if you are looking to treat yourself to something a bit special. We also still have a number of Classic rooms which have not been refurbished but offer all the standard comforts you would expect from a country inn.
Restaurant
The Wild Boar possesses character in abundance; oak beamed and cosy by candlelight, it delivers a delectable hearty and modern British menu, championing a whole host of local produce and seasonal ingredients from some of the best producers in the region. Embracing a passion for tradition and excellence the head Chef, Marc Sanders, makes full use of Lakeland’s natural larder when selecting produce for the regularly changing menu. A choice of real ales, guest beers, draft and bottled beers, an extensive wine list and over 50 whiskies. Guests are able to buy their own bottle of whisky or other spirits which will then be kept at the inn for their use on future visits.The Wild Boar itself is famous, historically for being the site where Sir Richard de Gilpin is said to have slain the last wild boar! And more present day for its classic British hearty menu with a strong emphasis on the very best seasonal local ingredients. The culmination of traditional décor and time-honoured ‘coaching inn’ ambience, warm welcome and friendly service, assures a home-from-home delight and a desire to linger! The new smokehouse and grill with open kitchen will only add to the atmosphere and inject a little theatre to the overall dining experience.
