The city of Antalya is located in Turkey, at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Known as Attaleia in ancient times (from the name of the city's founder, Attalos 2nd of Pergamos), today Antalya is one of the main sea resorts in Turkey. The population is about one million inhabitants.
The old town, Kaleici, is characterized by narrow winding streets surrounded by ancient Roman walls. The Hadrian Gate is the main entrance to the historic centre and is one of the most visited sites of the city, along with the Yivli Minare Mosque and its unique Fluted Minaret.
The harbour is surrounded by thick walls dating to the Roman period. Seize the chance to enjoy the splendid views over the sea, the harbour and the old town from the terrace of Antalya.
The Kaleici's museum and the Antalya's museum house some of the richest archaelogical and artistic collections from the prehistoric era, then Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Osmana periods.
Both in the district Kaleici and along the coast, visitors can enjoy typical local dishes (fish is one of the main ingredients) at relatively cheap prices. There are also boat tours and excursions to explore the city gulf.
The city's airport is only 10 km away and is well connected both with the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul, and many other European countries such asDenmark, France and Netherlands.
