Stayed in new section, so can't comment on rooms near the road, but was much better than expected. great breakfast spa/pool/sauna was excellent and included in price only issue was bit further from tube - about 10mins walk (barbican) but good bus routes

Regularly use this hotel when in london to meet up with friends as it's handy for where we go to eat. good value for money, friendly staff, rooms and facilities all ok

Have stayed at this hotel before and always found it good for a weekend stay. if you arrive after 2pm there is free parking on many of the surrounding streets which saves alot of money. we have been lucky in always getting an upgrade from a standard room to an exec king room. staff were extremely efficient and polite both at reception and in the breakfast room. the only thing that was not so good was that the main bar was closed with a sign up saying only open monday - thursday, we would have stayed up for a drink or two after returning to the hotel at around 11pm but did not fancy sitting in the reception bar.

Have stayed here twice before, the room we had this time was not so good, but the room was more expensive even though we booked the same grade. the carpet was threadbare, and there was some rubbish left in the room by previous occupants. on the plus side the shower was fab and so was breakfast. the staff were pleasant as well.

I really enjoyed my 2 day stay at the thistle hotel, it was lovely, being able to stay on-site for my course added to the enjoyment of the course. unfortunately, neither the fht or the hotel offered a discount for staying with a training session. however thanks to 'hotelclick.com' sevice it was possible. thank you.

Overall the hotel was smart and clean. staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was good. i was disapointed with the room which was very small especially as an extra bed was requested. which incidently was a fold out bed that kept collapsing and we ended up using the matress on the floor. the room and bathroom were quite shabby overall but it did have a good tv, kettle hairdryer and iron. iwould not give the standard room a 4* rating

I was in asmall single room with no air conditioning which was very uncomfortable in hot humid weather. the menu for dinner looked ok but the food was not good. they then add 12.5 percent service charge and leave a space on the bill for a further tip. an attempt to rip off tourists perhaps? breakfast wasn't up to the standard of similar hotels elsewhere in london and coffee hadn' appeared by the time i had finished breakfast. i will not be returning to this hotel unless i am desperate.

The restaurant is good and the bar area pleasant enough but as in many london hotels the double room was very small and the bathroom tiny. in need of some basic redecoration. basic things not checked e.g batteries on the tv remote. however very clean. so ok but not great.

We chose the thistle city barbican because of its proximity to the barbican theatre. we were , however, moved to another hotel many miles away at very short notice by hotelsclick who blamed the thistle for being overbooked. so no idea what the thistle is like & about £30 out of pocket for the extra travel costs.

Lovely hotel but in the middle of a quiet, residential, some council estates area. not many amenities in close vicinity but walkable to islington high street. was able to walk from liverpool street station (about 25 mins).

We stayed for one saturday night. the nearest tubestation (old street) is about 10 mins walk away. nice and straight forward for traveling to islington and camden town. the area surrounding the hotel is residential, not much in the way of shops and things to do. the leisure facilities were fantastic. very clean and new. the midday check out on the sunday meant that there was plenty of time to swim and then have a lovely big breakfast! we would definitely stay here again.

The barbican thistle is a half mile from the barbican center, so well positioned for there and a fairly easy taxi ride to west end. the plus side to the hotel is the leisure/fitness center, but alas the rooms are in need of some modernization. the central heating in our room was stuck on full, which became an issue late at night when the room go so hot, luckily we could cool the room at 2am with a noisy ceiling fan. the rooms are not sound proof and noise from other rooms can be heard, loos, flushing, tellys, voices......etc.

Generally a great hotel with friendly staff and great leisure facilities. bit of a walk to nearest tube but not a problem for us. may be less easy for older people or people travelling alone late at night. breakfast brilliant but did have to queue for 20 minutes and was all a bit manic!! great value though and would use again.

Great hotel, nice pool, sauna , steam room etc. rooms are big and well laid out. this is the first 4 star hotel i found that i actually think is 4 stars. meals were good, room service was always within 30 mins, £5.00 pound service charge mind you! location was only the down fall. not really near many tube stations a good 10-15 min walk to the nearest. this hotel is right in the middle of an residentual estate so felt a little uncomfortable late at night whilst walking back on my own. i paid £99.50 including breakfast for a single room. this was great value.
