Apparently, reservations don't mean anything!

I arrived with a colleague late in the evening, after flight delays into dublin. upon arrival, the receptionist told us he had no record of our booking and that the hotel was full. when i produced my hotelsclick.com booking (and payment) confirmation, he dismissed it as irrelevant if there was no record of it on his system. after the journey we'd just had, this was the last thing we wanted to hear. what was worse was his attitude, which was basically 'your problem, not mine'. and shrugging his shoulders at us after 11:30pm in a foreign city with no idea of where we would be sleeping was particularly offensive. thankfully, the duty manager was nearby and came over to help. he actually did help. he packed us off to the bar with a complimentary drink while he got to the bottom of the situation and told us he'd sort it all out. we'd barely touched our drinks when he told us that there had been an oversight and that they would have to send us to a nearby sister hotel, where our original booking would stand. not only that, he laid on a taxi to take us there. what was originally very disappointing in that we couldn't stay in the area we needed to for our early business meeting in the morning, was made all the worse by a particularly tactless and downright rude receptionist. i would not have such a person in a public facing role in any business of mine. so, no actual experience of the hotel itself, just an extremely unhelpful and rude receptionist, but as i say, i shudder to think what would have happened if the manager hadn't been nearby. he himself was great, very apologetic and made us feel like our booking actually mattered. that said, i won't be risking it again.
