4/5 Read Review

Great location in amsterdam

Good hotel with tram stop just in front. having read previous reviews about the noise at the front of the hotel, i emailed ahead and requested a room at the back with a view if possible. i had an immediate and very polite response and indeed we were given a room overlooking a leafy courtyard from which we heard not a peep of noisy revellers despite having all the windows wide open all night. there lies the only rub - no air con (although a fan had been provided). staff were exceedingly polite and courteous throughout. we stayed for 6 nights and the room was clean and just about big enough for 2 but what can you expect in a city at that price? we were room only and elected not to buy breakfast at the extortionate €20 each but went to the very close starbucks which is one of the best we've been to or bought a coffee and croissant from one of the many patisseries or hema supermarkets. we were 2nd floor - accessed by lift and then 2 stair cases - one very steep but manageable. the bar area was always empty - we went for a beer there one night, but having seen the barman 'wash' the glass in a bowl of what didn't look like the cleanest washing up water in the world and to make matters worse poured a draught beer into the wet glass we stuck to bottled beers after that. didn't eat the hotel once so can't comment. yes we would recommend it if the price was right but don't go in warmer weather or you'll roast in the rooms!
