Siena, is the capital of one of the Tuscany province and is located in central-southern region of Italy, the city is one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Italy and, together with Florence, represents one of the most interesting of places for those who visit Tuscany.According to legend, Siena was founded by Senio, the son of Remus, for which you can find several statues depicting Romulus and Remus eatan by the wolf. The heart of the city is represented by Piazza del Campo, widely known as the stage of the famous Palio of Siena, an horse race that takes place every year on the 2nd of July and the 16th of August, involving the various "districts", ie the different areas of the city, each of which is characterized by a specific color and emblem.
In Piazza del Campo is the Public Palace, built in Gothic style at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth century and was once the home of the "Signoria fiorentina". Today it houses the offices of the Siena local council and also a Museum where you can admire many masterpieces of Sienese art. The Government Building, next to which stands the imposing Torre del Mangia, was built during what was called the "Governo dei Nove" Government of the Nine (a group that held power between 1287 and 1355), ie during the cultural and economic heyday period of the city. During this period the Siena Cathedral was built, considered to be one of the finest examples of Italian Gothic style.
