Discover Padua

Padua is a city in Veneto and capital of the province, 40 km from Venice. It's home to a prestigious and oldest university founded in 1222; Padua enjoys a multitude of witnesses who celebrate it as a major artistic and cultural center in Italian history that make today an international tourist destination. St. Anthony of Padua, a native of Lisbon (1195-1231) gives the city its name.

The city is full of buildings and monuments that tell the story precisely. Among the best examples we cite the Roman Arena, the various city walls, medieval towers, churches and other places of religious worship. William Shakespeare, too, chose Padua as the setting for one of his finest comedies, The Taming of the Shrew. The city of Padua also preserves one of the most extraordinary and revolutionary masterpieces of medieval art: the Scrovegni Chapel, which was the beginning of the fourteenth century frescoes by Giotto. Still, the tourists who visit the city can also find examples of modern architecture such as, for example, Net Tower, a skyscraper of 85 meters which has 22 floors and the monument to the fallen of Daniel Libeskind's Twin Towers in New York.

Airport Padova "Gino Allegri", is no longer served by regular flights, but it is relatively close to the airports of Venice, Verona, Treviso e Bologna. The high-speed trains connecting Padova with the cities of Milan, Rome, Bologna, Florence and Venice.
