Royal british hotel edinburgh

The hotel is under a refurbishment program allthough this is suspended for the summer season so no disruption.we had a newly refurbished room which was very nice and comfortable.the breakfast is not large but is adequate the cooked part is not a buffet and served to you the buffet part is the usual ceral, fruit yogarts etc and is all ok.i would use the hotel again.

Tattoo week

A good hotel but having to carry luggage from car park not good for elders. it lacks a drop off point or porters to help elderly. we enjoyed our stay food very good & would use again.

Location location location

This hotels location is the best thing about it. perfect spot right in the heart of the city, convenient for all the attractions. clean enough, friendly, helpful staff. only downside of the location is the noise which is pretty awful, especially if you get a room facing onto princes street. my only gripe is that my three bed room had gaps between the windows and the window frames which not only made an awful racket, it was freezing. in summer, with earplugs, highly recommended if looking for prime location on a budget.

First edinburgh experience

This was our first experience of edinburgh & we had chosen the hotel on the internet. the position was brilliant for all local attractions, shopping, restaurants & bars, all within easy walking distance. however, we were disappointed with the general look of the hotel & 1st impressions were that it was rather shabby. the executive double was very spacious & could have been made more comfortable with new furniture & furnishings.

1 night business trip

The hotel is 3 minutes walk from waverley station. there are loads of stairs to climb if you don't have all day to wait for the eccentric lift. the decor is tired. my room was more than adequate. the tv, kettle and shower all worked. the price was pretty good by city standards. the reception staff were very helpful - they looked after my bag all day after i checked out. breakfast was good, but i felt i might be told to eat everything up before i'd be allowed to leave! i didn't use any of the other facilities.

Two days in edinburgh

We arrived at the royal british on princes street monday morning, 11th august. the entrance has an awkward step which several people were tripping over. the receptionist was pleasant, informative and efficient. the room was classed as an "executive" room and was a huge disappointment. the hotel is 4 star and at near £150 a night is not good value. no sports facilities, no mini bar. seven tv channels with unbelieveably poor reception. no air conditioning, no soundproofing. the room was in desperate need of a makeover. smelly curtains, stained carpets, old bed, very very 1930's. breakdfast the next morning was a delight, but didn't make up for the continual noise from princes street.

Pre christmas break

Overall an excellent place to stay. position excellent- max 5 mins walk to royal mile, 5mins to the royal theater and directly on princess street. the bus stop from the airport just a few minutes walk too. room very tired and in need of refurbishment, but fairly clean. receptionist could not recommend a good steakhoue, information for local eateries would be useful in rooms. breakfast was well cooked and buffet well stocked. we felt that background music was needed in the breakfast room.the lift was well used by us, again in need of refurbishment- the carpet badly stained and the wall of the lift was broken. all staff very pleasant.

Not worth the money

This is an expensive hotel - which would be fine if the accommodation or service matched the price. the greeting at reception was indifferent - and there were no signs to tell visitors that reception is on the first floor and no directions to the lift [which is at the back of the hotel opposite what appeared to be a very dirty corridor leading to a kitchen. the room was shabby and the bits of bedding material and scraps of paper on the floor were not swept away throughout a four night stay. the restaurant food was typical of a lower quality pub bar meal and service both on the first evening and at breakfast each day was poor - on two occasions we waited 20 minutes for breakfast which was cold and congealed on arrival. comment was greeted with a shrug and weak apology. we were not shown to a table; the waiter shouted from accross the room and pointed to a table. not an experience i wish to repeat - it was a miserable experience.

Short break

Hotel staff were very helpful, but the room was dirty,we had to request that they change the shower curtain,as it was making the whole room smell.fixtures & fittings could do with a bit of tlc as well. i dont think we would stay at this hotel again.

Fringe benefits

Stayed for two nights during the festival. location great for most main fringe venues. large comfortable room overlooking princes street. cooked breakfast, limited choice, but well cooked. friendly reception, you can store luggage after checking in or out, very useful if you are using public transport.

Excellent experience

The royal british hotel was very comfortable and the location hard to beat. just across the road from were the airport bus stops and close to shops and other attractions. staff were very friendly and informative and the rooms although fairly basic were clean and cosy. breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. the happy hour in the bar was also much appreciated!! there appeared to be a mixed bag of people staying there including groups (possibly hen or stag weekends) and also older people. i did not experience any noise from the groups mentioned.

Edinburgh break

Although check-in is not until 2.00pm we were given our room key just after 12.00. the receptionist and bar waitress were extremely friendly and helpful on check-in. we were fortunate in having a very large 1st floor front room which was very comfortable. there was plenty to choose from and to eat at breakfast. we had 3 lunches in the hotel restaurant. the choice was adequate although not extensive. the prices were very reasonable and the ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant. the staff were very good.

Great location, just don't ask for a single room if you want any space

I have used this hotel on a number of occasions, and it is excellently located in the heart of edinburgh. this was the first time i have had a single room, and it will be the last. the room itself had everything you would expect but with only enough space to enter the room and get to the bathroom, nothing extra!
