Great view

This holiday inn is well situated near the mayflower park by the waterside. there are great views of the ships and boats on the solent. we asked for and were allocated a double room with a great view of the harbour. the staff at checking very friendly and very helpful. the room was clean and suitably furnished for a short stay. the hotel's bar was a bit soleless it was not the sort of place to linger for a relaxing drink. breakfast was self service with the full range of options. it was busy but staff coped very well with clearing tables and replacing items. the toast machine produced toast in one pass. this is a first in any establishment that i have stayed in!!! sell it to the world

Great location

Stayed at the holiday inn for 1 night. the best feature, in my opinion, is the location. our room was on the seventh floor on the north side and gave us a fantastic view over the r. test. i would imagine the view on the other side would be even better as it looks out over southampton water. this has to be the no.1 hotel pitch in the city. internally, the rooms are good and clean but they're reaching the stage where a refurb might be a good idea. there's nothing wrong with them but a little attention would add a lot of value. the staff were all very friendly and the whole hotel operation was very smooth. the price we found for the holiday inn was considerably lower than any of the other larger hotels in central southampton ......not sure why. had to pay a extra £7 for parking for 24 hours but that doesn't seem too bad. of course it would have been better if it was free! breakfast was excellent and included a good range of food.
