Beautiful historical hotel

On arriving at the hotel, we felt like we were walking into a beautiful stately home and welcomed by the staff. our rooms were large and well equipped with outstanding views from our third floor balconies. though the hotel has old world charm, it has modern equipment. the air conditioning was very quiet and very effective. breakfast was lovely and did include a small amount of sausage and bacon and scrambled egg for those that want that. the rest of breakfast available gave so much choice that you certainly wouldn't need lunch. all staff were very welcoming and would always greet you. in particular the young pool attendant could not be more attentive. parking at the hotel is free and plentiful. i would recommend a car though as it is too far to walk to syracuse centre. you can catch a bus instead as there is a good bus service and it avoids the problem of parking in the town centre. if i was picky i would say that there should not be a hire charge for pool towels and the pool umbrellas are getting rickety.

Old fashioned charm, but still grand

We really enjoyed our two night stay at the villa politi. it's a 15 minutes walk downhill to ortigia and a e10 to e15 taxi fare back. it's a similar distance from the greek theatre. the rooms and building are spotless and very well maintained, with a good swimming pool. the key attraction is the building itself and the surroundings, overlooking one of the ancient quarries. it's a perfect spot to sit outside with a drink, during dusk and in the early evening. i usually stay in a chain hotel, but my stay here has encouraged me to look out for more quirky accommodation in the future.
