Weekend away

Arrived on the friday, didn't get a room with a double bed like we booked. they told us they would change it. nothing done after 3 visits to reception to remind them. the receptionist then turned up with new bedding, pushed 2 singles together and changed sheets. heating wasn't working in room, again told reception but nothing done. breakfast was a joke on saturday morning. buffet breakfast with very little in trays. people standing around waiting for waitress to replenish the trays. seriously understaffed hotel i think, and over priced for the standard of service. mediocre fish and chips from the bar was £30. definitely wont be back here.

Shopping and rod stewart

Stayed here for two nights>room big and clean but getting a little tired looking> air condition was not working and the hotel was full but was offerred to change rooms the second night which we didn't do as couldn't be bothered packing/unpacking. receptionist said we could perhaps get an upgarde next time and when we booked we had to call her ans the upgrade would take place if available. so i didn't think that was satisfactory as how would we know if there was or wasnt a room to upgrade to. the staff were friendly and the front of hotel and bar was very welcoming and comfortable.

Very comfortable

I stayed here for two nights for a conference in glasgow , because of trip advisor reviews. on arrival i thought it looked a little duller than expected for the price, nothing special. however my room on the third floor was quiet, clean, comfy bed etc. friendly helpful staff. amazing breakfast with lots of fresh food, freshly cooked poached eggs which you don't often see! so no complaints at all

Great hotel all-round

As a travel professional, i'm often hyper-critical of hotels and other travel experiences. however, the menzies hotel glasgow met all my expectations and exceeded some. the over-all impression was of a well-run hotel, with well-trained staff who were up for (and empowered to) deal with anything their customers throw at them! the location appears a bit run-down as you approach by car, but the car park is extremely secure, and the pedestrian access to argyle street means you only need to use washington street when in the car or taxi. i didn't use the business centre, but wifi was very efficient and reliable.

Paradise

Have just had a very very relaxing weekend and the menzies. gym and pool an added bonus made good use of them both. the service at the bar was a bit slow not many staff on not sure if it was just the change of shift or not but would not have liked to see them under pressure but as we were having a relaxing time it was not the end of the world. the beds were wonderful wish i could have spent a bit more time in it. all in all a lovely experience would certainly go back

A good choice of hotel in glasgow

The location being just of argyle steet is central enough to be quite convenient for the "city centre" and the hotel itself well warrants its four star rating. the rooms are a good size as are the bathrooms -- both nice and clean and tidy. the restaurant (used only for breakfast) is also a good size and the food was very good indeed -- as was the service. the leisure facilities are also very good !

Enjoyed our stay. definitely 4 star hotel for 2 star price. staff very friendly and helpful. i think we may have been given a room upgrade as i explained the reason for the visit and also that i attended school just opposite some 44years ago! service was excellent. leisure facilities also great. location was ideal for us and is 5 minutes from the central station and on the way to the secc.

Menzies glasgow - beware room 611

Lovely hotel, arrived to find we'd been upgraded to an executive suite - unfortunatley this particular room had a damp problem and stunk to high heaven - this was obviously a long standing problem that the hotel was aware of as the room contained a timer air freshner. complained and got moved to a standard suite without offensive odours without any real fuss even though the hotel was almost full - top marks to reception staff. other than the smelly room 611 which spoiled our stay as the smell is still has come home with us on our luggage - this hotel has a great city centre location, good standard of accommodation; clean, well furnished, helpful staff and great value breakfast.

Menzies glasgow

4 out of 5 rooms booked were good however 1 room which my friend upgraded to resulted in poor confidence in your service. my friend arrived and decided to upgrade to apartment. on arrival the room was cold and heating wasn't working. after at least 5 calls to reception the security officer arrived and stated that he had attended the computed heating system and that the hot air would begin to flow in 10 mins. half hour later and the room was still cold. my friend contacted reception again who advised they would again send someone up. by this time we had cancelled our meal reservation and rebooked for an hour later to allow the heating problem to be solved. again no one attended the room and reception were contacted. this time they said that they would move my friend to another room straight away. she waited again to no avail. by this time we had to leave for our dinner booking. on leaving she advised receptionist stacey who agreed to have the problem fixed by return but this did not happen. my friend ended up staying in a cold apartment. next morning she spoke with reception who agreed to refund the cost of her upgrade which was £45. i feel that i should also have been refunded for the cost of the room which i paid for since my friend had a very uncomfortable night. she mentioned this to the receptionist who advised that this was not possible. i am very unsatisfied with this outcome. in summary 4 of the rooms were very good but given the customer service received by my friend i would be hesitant about booking with menzies again in the future.

Christmas shopping weekend

Had a lovely stay here at the menzies and would certainly go again. we arrived early but were able to check stright into our room. everything was clean and the room was spacious. although we were quite near the m8 we couldn't hear any traffic noise in our room. the restaurant was booked out for a private party on the saturday night but as we were told immediately on arrival we made other plans for saturday evening. the hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the extensive shopping area and although a couple of the streets you pass look a bit suspect it's along a main road and we didn't feel threatened walking back at night. the only 2 minor complaints were, we booked an early morning call for sunday so we could use the pool etc before breakfast and we did not get it and also we were not informed that if we came to breakfast between 9am and 9.30am we would have to wait to be seated. when i complained we had not been advised of this the lady receptionist said that there were notices in the lifts. there was not a notice in the lift we used to the 2nd floor?? these issues aside i would certainly stay again and consider the hotel to be value for money.

Menzies, glasgow

We had the good fortune to have one of our roms upgraded to an executive suite which was huge however the standard room was also lovely. because we booked through hotelsclick.com we got a brilliant deal which also included breakfast which was very tastey. we also enjoyed the the use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. all in all, this was one of the best hotels that i have had the pleasure of staying in and made our visit to glasgow that bit more special.

A great weekend

Our family of 3 enjoyed a great stay at the menzies - and it was easy to discover glasgow from the hotel too. the staff were extremely helpful - i had stupidly left my razor at home but within two minutes of a request to reception a complimentary shaving pack arrived!! really great service - and an excellent restaurant on site too.

Short break

The hotel is very pleasant, good leisure centre, breakfast is a disorganised disaster that does not cater for anyone who does not want a standard fry or a roll and cheese and does not want to have to chase after every item. the service overall in the hotel is non existent. the room is very pleasant and bigger than most but rather spoilt by spending the entire 4 days trying to get a tv remote control that worked - as i said before service is non existent.

Businsess stay

Overall our stay was very pleasant with excellent secure parking facilities. however, they let themsleves down on arrival with much confusion over our booking. we arrived at about 10pm and they said oh we are very busy and will have to see if we have a room available! not good. we watched as we were told to take a seat as 8 other people who arrived after us were allocated rooms - very annoying. yes they apologised, claiming it was their computer system but we were still made to feel like an inconveience.

A great weekend at the glasgow menzies hotel

My wife and myself wanted a hotel that was central for the glasgow shops and also for the secc arena where we were attending a pop concert. we were amazed to find that the menzies was within a short 15 minute walk of each of these requirements (but in different directions). i used their brilliant swimming pool and spa facilities twice during our stay and the buffet style breakfasts were more than ample to set us up for the day's shopping. car parking was very reasonable and secure. we couldn't find anything wrong and fully enjoyed our three night break.

Pleasant weekend at the menzies hotel

My partner and i had a wonderful 3 night stay at the hotel. the staff were very friendly and pleasant. the room was spotless, very nice decor, very large with a huge bed. super shower in the en-suite bathroom. having the pool on the premises was great, nice to go down and relax in the jaccuzi. we didn't try out the restaurant, but the breakfast was very good. we were surprised by how quiet the hotel was in relation to traffic noise, with the motorway running very close by, there was no noise. its a short walk from the main shopping areas. in short, a very pleasurable and relaxing stay. we plan to return in november, and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in the glasgow area. very reasonably priced for such a quality hotel.

Good glasgow hotel

An excellent hotel, at a reasonable price, but could make some simple improvements. very spacious and comfortable, and spotlessley clean. down sides were late make-up of room (after 3pm), very noisy air conditioning with only one speed of fan (windows do not open), and difficulty in getting a pot of tea at breakfast (had to ask waitress 3 times).
