Discover Cannes
Cannes is located on the French Riviera, in southern France, not far from other important towns in this area such as Antibes, Nice and Monaco.Cannes is a modern city that is characterized by its luxurious places and restaurants and trendy bars. It has many tourist attractions: its historical centre, shops, beautiful sandy beaches and wonderful bay.
Once a small fishing village, Cannes is today one of the most popular tourist destinations in the south of France. Its waterfront, the Promenade de la Croisette, is renowned for its restaurants, boutiques and cafés, as well as for the beautiful beaches and the Festival Palace (Palais des Festivals), in which it takes place in mid-May the famous Film Festival.
The old historic town, known as Le Suquet, is characterized by narrow streets filled with restaurants and souvenir shops, the most famous of which is Rue St Antoine.
Cannes contains some interesting museums such as the Museum of Art and History of Provence, located in a building of the eighteenth century, the Musée de la Castre, which contains several objects from the Pacific atolls, Peruvian relics and Mayan ceramics, and the Naval Museum.
For those who love good food, a must visit is the covered market (Marché Forville), both for the dishes that you can find here, and for its location at the end of rue Meynardiers, one of the most famous gourmand street of the French Riviera.
In the Bay of Cannes there are also the two Lérins Islands (Îles de Lérins), that are worth a visit: St Honorat, with its monastery and the ruins of an ancient castle, and Ste Marguerite, with its castle, shops, bars and restaurants.
