What to see in Varadero
Here is the Parque de las 8,000 Taquillas
, (or rather the Park of the 8,000 Cubicles), built in 1960 to symbolize, after the Cuban Revolution, the possibility of an integrated tourism between Cubans and foreigners. The park is obviously tied to the beach activities; however since the 1960s has become, along with the surrounding area, the centre of Varafero cultural life, where festivals, concerts and sporting events are often organized.
In addition to the sandy beaches, Varadero has many other natural resources you can explore, like caves and virtually untouched cays
Near Varadero there are also many attractions related to Cuban history, art and culture; in particular, from here you can visit the cities of Matanzas and Cárdenas, to the Zapata Peninsula
, or reach the baths of San Miguel de los Baños
, whose mineral waters are used for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
Varadero is a great destination for diving and deep sea fishing lovers, and in general for who like water sports
How to reach Varadero
To reach the resort you can use the Juan Gualberto Gómez airport
, located in the western part of the peninsula, which, after the one in Havana, is the second most important airport in Cuba.
