Discover Bogota
Bogotá, formally Bogotá, Capital District, from 1991 to 2000 called Santafé de Bogotá, is the capital, and largest city, of Colombia. Bogotá and its metropolitan area, which includes municipalities such as Chía, Cota, Soacha, Cajicá and La Calera. In terms of land area, Bogotá is the largest city in Colombia, and one of the biggest in Latin America. Bogotá owns the largest moorland of the world, which is located in the Sumapaz Locality.Bogotá is located on the west of the Savannah of Bogotá (Sabana de Bogotá), 2640 metres (8661 ft) above sea level. The Bogotá River crosses the sabana, forming Tequendama Falls (Salto de Tequendama) to the south. Bogotá has a subtropical highland climate. The average temperature is 14.5 °C (58 °F),[14] and it varies from 6 to 19 °C (43 to 66 °F) in fair skies days, to 10 to 18 °C (50 to 64 °F) in heavy rain days.
Despite the bad reputation Colombia bore in the 1980s and early 1990s, tourism in Bogotá has increased since the 2000s due to aggressive publicity campaigns and improvements in both infrastructure and safety. Bogotá's economy has significantly been boosted due to new shopping malls built within the last few years.
