Hotel CARTER Despite its location, the Carter is recommended only for undemanding customers, who want to spend less possible and that is willing to accept a situation where hygienic conditions are at the limit of tolerance. The reception is open 24h-24h and is available wireless Internet access for a surcharge. More Details Hotel Carter

Cheap and cheerful

The carter is not the most expensive hotel in fact it is very cheap. my friend and myself have stayed at the carter every time we have been to new york (this is the 11th time i have stayed there and this is the first year that i have gone myself)and it has always been very convenient for time square and the other attractions that of manhattan. if you expect luxury do not go to the carter but the most important thing for me is that the bed linin is clean and that there is plenty of hot water to shower.

You get what you pay for.

We didn't go to new york to sit in a posh hotel all day, if that's what your looking for, do not stay here. if you want somewhere to sleep and shower then this is the place for you, bed linen was clean but take your own towels. excellent location, right on times square and next to the port authority bus terminal.

Cheap and cheerful

If you are looking for comfort and luxury, you will not find it here. the carter hotel, the beds are clean, the water is hot and no bed bugs. the hotel is ideally situated and the best price you will get in that location as long as you are not expecting 5 star service. this is the ninth year my friend and i have stopped there and look forward to going back again next year.

Cheap and cheerful!

The hotel was nothing to write home about but it has all you need. rooms are clean/tidy and secure, reception are helpful and there is a shop on the ground floor open 24 hours which is really handy (they make burgers and chips at 5:30am awesome!). for the price this is a great place to stay with a great location i would not recommend it to the queen but would to all my freinds and would definitly stay again.

Carter hotel

The room was not very clean and the conditions of that was very poor. the only good thing is the situation, close to times square.

Great value central location!

This hotel is in an amazing location and great value. just off of time square it is really convenient for 42nd street, madam tussauds, broadway theatres, circle- line ferry's to statue of liberty...central park, empire state and madison square gardens are just a 20 minute walk away. the hotel is really easy to find and to return to after a day of fun. i stayed here five days with my two teenage son's sharing a large two double bedded room and i would recommend it to young people, any family or in fact anyone that wants to maximize their stay in new york on a budget.

Carter hotel new york

Dirtiest hotel room ever had. first room i was given had not been cleaned since last people left. next room bed clothes at least clean. floor not been vacuumed for decades it seemed with broken glass under the table.had to ask for this to be done and reluctantly was sorted. the housekeeper's comment was "well it's not a five star!" i have been in many basic hotels but at least they are clean.

Amazing location

Ok so the carter is not the ritz - but luxury comes at a price and this place is great if on a budget. the location is amazing - just steps from times square. there are improvements to be made - a lamp would have been nice and the bedrooms + bathrooms are a little shabby but you get what you pay for. the staff were,in the main, helpful. i would certainly stay there again.

A hell hole in a nice location

This hotel is awfull and i would urge any one considering it to stay well clear of it the staff are rude and are unhelpfull the whole hotel smells the rooms are filthy wall paper hanging off walls where the walls are so damp the towels they gave us had dirt on them and the shower curtain was to be desired, it really ruined our holiday it is a health and saftey risk!!!!!

Poor hotel, but excellently located and cheap.

This hotel is very cheap and we couldn't find anywhere in central new york for anything close to this price. it's location is excellent, being 100 yds from times square (and for breakfast there is a great europan cafe in 8th avenue). now for the downside, it is cheap for a reason. the wallpaper is falling off due to mould, the paint on the ceiling was flaking, the toilet had a leak and so the bathroom smelt. the bathroom door would not close as it had about 30 layers of paint on it etc etc. if you are after somewhere to sleep and want to see the sights of ny, and are on a budget, then i would recommend it. but i would not have wanted to take my 2 year old son there.

Great location, bad hotel

We arrived at the carter at 2am after a long flight, we checked in to a room which was, to say the least, awful. we had to go downstairs 3 times to check out the other rooms after complaining and each were as bad. we decided to stay in the original room for 1 night and the man said he would change our room in the morning. the room we finally got given was ok, still very shabby and basic.

Cheap...not so cheerful

The hotel is very cheap for it's location but i can honestly say it's the worst hotel we've ever stayed in. we had 4 rooms and not one of the bathroom doors in all 4 rooms shut properly. in 2 rooms none of the plug sockets worked. i don't think the carpet had seen a hoover in it's life time. the mirrors were so dirty with caked on dirt that you couldn't see anything. no maid service, no towels changed...i could go on...!

I expected basic and thats what you get.everthing about the place is basic the carpets in reception looked like they had never been cleaned.the rooms were clean and everthing woked so that was a bonus but the decor was shocking ,there was no maid service and nobody to help with bags no soap or shampoo.

Fab location - room was what youd expect for the money

Great location and room was fine. cleanish. though a bathroom door that shut and a plug for the sink or the bath would have been useful. carpet for the walls and headboard was also "novel" we werent there for the room - there to shop - so hotel was fit for purpose

Not as appealing from picture but very cheap for location

Many young people stay here. the reception area tries its best and the hotel is very dated but reasonably clean. i stayed for 1 night in feb 07 with my 10 yr old daughter which was ok but wouldn't do so again with a child. the first room given was cold, very drafty especially with freezing weather conditions outside and small. when i complained to reception they offered an alternative room straight away within 5 mins and this room was significantly warmer, maybe too hot at times and more roomier. this made a big difference. i would only recommend the hotel to those on a tight budget who spend most of their time out in nyc and don't seek any mod-cons in a hotel.
