Conned into another inferior hotel
My wife and i were transferred from the carnival palace hotel to another inferior hotel due to alleged air con problems on the 1st floor of the carnival palace (which we didn't believe, we were told by another guest we spoke to that they were overbooked). we had chosen the carnival palace (no32 on trip advisor) for the modern clean look and quiet location. when we arrived we were told about the air con problem and informed that we were being transferred to the boscolo hotel bellini (no198 on trip advisor). having walked to the hotel with our cases we were told we would be "transferred" to the other hotel. the transfer turned out to be us walking behind a porter dragging our cases through the streets for 10 to 15mins to the new location, which was in a very busy area a few metres from the rail station. this hotel is the complete opposite of the carnival palace. the décor is old fashioned, cheap and tacky and looks like it hasn't been touched since it was opened. everywhere you look there are fixtures and fittings that are either broken or haven't been put up correctly (have italians ever heard of a spirit level?). the room we were given was a good size but this meant that the air con unit in the room had very little impact on the room temperature. the shower was broken with mildew in the door seals and grout and the safe was locked closed so couldn't be used. the breakfast was poor and the room maid was trying to get into our room 45mins before the official checkout time (she came into the room twice without knocking while we were still packing). i believe we were conned into staying in this inferior hotel, which we would never normally have touched with a barge pole, due to some agreement between the hotel owners and hotelsclick.com to continue taking bookings even when the popular hotels are full and then move people into these less popular hotels when they have no choice. i paid £131 for the carnival palace but wouldn’t have paid half this for the boscolo bellini.
