The carlton on the grand was not so grand with small rooms and over bath shower over a small bath. the breakfast area was small and so on some days unable to accommodate the number of guests staying. excellent location for the train and bus station, but some trek from st marks square. this was the hotel offered by hotel clicks when the one we chose was unbookable.

Good location, across canal from train station, and bus station nearby. our room was overlooking the inner courtyard, and was quiet. the air-conditioning was needed as it was very warm during our stay. we had a large bathroom as there was 3 of us.

This was a fabulous hotel and the location was superb. my sister joined us for lunch as she was on a cruise ship and was so impressed, she booked a stay there. the only down side was the receptionist when asked advised us that the best way to reach the cruise terminal was by water taxi at 70 euros. it was in fact a four minute walk and a short taxi ride that cost 15 euros.

We stayed at the carlton on the grand canal in venice for 4 nights w/c apr 18 2011. can agree with the reviews elsewhere, we liked the hotel very much. it is well situated right opposite the railway station on the grand canal, also near the bus station so easy to get to from the airport. our room was not huge, but well decorated, with a safe, tv, hairdryer etc as you would expect,bed comfy, with a good shower. the staff were very good, attentive and professional, especially in the cafe. being served coffee at the outside tables overlooking canal was a particular pleasure.

In all we enjoyed our stay at the carlton on the grand.receptionists were very efficient and pleasant.breakfast was good and plentiful.the rooms were a bit tired and the bathrooms very small with a glass door.in a four star hotel you would expect tea and coffee making facilities.had we paid more i would have been very disappointed.

I've stayed in this hotel twice, both times in november. it is an excellent choice especially for first time visitors to venice as it is very convenient to piazzale roma, the bus terminus. my latest stay was in a 'superior' room which was fairly large with a very comfortable large double bed. the bathroom was also a good size; plenty of hot water available 24 hours and a good shower. on a b&b basis only we found the breakfast offered a reasonable choice and was plentiful even if you arrive towards 10.30am. endless supply of good coffee ensures a great start to your day. fresh linens every day and the room well serviced. there is free internet available in the rooms but i did not use it so cannot comment. the staff are really helpful and speak english if you prefer. right on the grand canal by the scalzi bridge you are well placed for all the cultural highlights, for instance the 'frari' is less than 10 minutes walk. the vaporetti stop just over the bridge. so, if you want a top class hotel at a reasonable price in my view this hotel ticks all the boxes.

The hotel was ideally located a few minutes walk from piazale roma where our coach stopped.it stands overlooking the grande canal giving you excellent views and transport links around venice. the room was a little small for a 4 star hotel but in good condition and comfortable. you had to accept the price tag was based around the location and standard of rest of hotel rather than a basic room! the staff were very helpful and the breakfast (cold buffet) had a good selection.
