Discover Waterloo
The town of Waterloo is located in the centre of Belgium, more precisely in the Walloon Region, one of the three that make up the state, whose official languages are French (spoken in most of the region) and German.Waterloo is well known for the battle that in 1815 marked the final defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte, however, it is not only this historic event that attracts visitors to the town, which has many tourist attractions thanks to its artistic, architectural and cultural heritage.
Among the main attractions is definitely the site where where the battle of Waterloo was fought, located in the area of Mont-Saint-Jean, where Victor Hugo lived for a period in the nineteenth century. Here there are several memorials, such as the butte de Lion (mound of Lyon), which is a large mound on top of which it stands the statue of a lion, or the Wax Museum, which contains the wax statues of Napoleon and his officers.
In Waterloo there is also the Eglise Saint-Joseph, one of the oldest and most important international schools in the country; there are also many local museums, some of which are dedicated to the battle.
The town is easily accessible thanks to the presence of the Charleroi Airport, used by low-cost budget airlines; Waterloo also boasts an excellent location because it is located only a short distance from the capital, thus it is easy to reach it and to go and visit the main sights of Brussels.
