To bed but not to sleep

Great location in old town close castle and heart of the royal mile. hotel itself decent decor and tidy. big problem is noise - bars opposite until early hours and then drunken guests from various stag and hen parties roaming the corridors. don't stay here at the weekend if you're a couple or family and actually want to sleep at all!

Weekend in edinburgh

The location is great but our room was not the best. on the second floor overlooking the carpark and terrace so was very noisy. the extractor fan was not brilliant in the bathroom and the plumbing needs some work. there are loads of stairs to get into the hotel so not great unless you have help with luggage, kids etc. staff are friendly and efficient. had a really good breakfast with great views of the castle. probably would have been better tohave bee higher up in the hotel.

Apex international december 2009

This is a great hotel to stay in for exploring edinburgh. very central within easy walking distance of the castle, princess street and other sites of interest. we stayed at a busy time and apart from the main bar being very busy we had no issues at all with the hotel

Full to overflowing

A great stay. clean room, comfortable beds, good shower but the drain didn't work too well so the shower tray filled up and spilled out onto the floor. good breakfast in a restaurant with a spectacular view. highly recommended.

Apex international edinburgh

Hotel is situated in the middle of the city - not too noisy with excellent access to bars shows etc. downside to our stay was a wedding was held there over the two nights which took priority over the remaining guests. the main bar was closed on saturday night to non wedding guests, which left a small bar with very little choice - not vey impressed

Apex international

The hotel was suberb and excellent value for the price we got it at. the reception staff were great and very friendly especially as we needed to store several large items. the rooms were large with 2 double beds in each. the was however variability in the rooms. i asked to be but at the back of the hotel and was put on the 5th floor. my colleague was at the front on the first floor. the rooms on the first floor had obviously been refurbished whereas on the 5th floor they hadn't. my bathroom was a bit shabby and very dark. it must have been difficult to clean because of the light as there were a few hairs left in corners! in addition, my colleague got pringles, jelly beans and clean bath robes every day where as i didn't get any of this - bizarre! the internet access was great - very easy to use. breakfast was on the whole very good. on the first 2 days we were at breakfast very early and the food was excellent. however, on the last day, we were later and the restaurant was very busy. the cooked food had obviously been lying around and was dry. the smoked haddock was virtually inedible which was disappointing especially in view of our expectations based on the last couple of days. the big downside is the noise outside as the grassmarket does seem to be popular with edinburgh's late night revellers!!

The apex international - highly recommended!

The apex international is a modern hotel with good facilities. there is an excellent choice of foods for breakfast and views of the castle from the restaurant are not to be missed! the (standard) bedroom was clean with two double beds, an ironing board, hairdryer, trouser press, tv and dvd. there was plenty of hanging / storage space. the only thing missing was a fridge / mini-bar (may be available in higher grade rooms?). there was plenty of staff available who were very helpful. the spa facilities (i tried the pool and steam room) were good, and the changing rooms were spotless, with towells, hairdryer, complimentary toiletries, and lockers provided. the apex is good value for money and in an excellent location for exploring the "old town".
