I was expecting 'basic' accommodation which was basically what the room was. but i was appalled at the state of the bathroom especially the shower. fortunately for one night i could manage without taking a shower.

This is a very basic and plain place to stay. my room was in a building across the road, which is not ideal (reduced security). probably shouldn't count as a 3-star hotel. it is cheap and only minutes away from paddington, however, and the basic room does have everything you need. it could do with double glazing as there was quite a bit of noise outside throughout the night. breakfast is not good.

The alexandra makes a great base, for a budget hotel. the room was clean, comfortable and warm (we were visiting in december) and the location quiet. it's a bit tricky getting up to the fourth floor with luggage - the stairs are narrow and the lift is small and stops at the third floor, but this is a minor complaint considering the low cost of the room. the breakfast is a bit basic (no whole-grain breads or cereal, or fruit) but again, when you are paying such a low amount for the room, who really minds.
