Great location!
Stayed at hotel suizo for over 2 weeks while in barcelona and this was the perfect spot to stay. location: a yellow l4 metro line stop (jaume i) is directly in front of the hotel so you never have to fear about how you're going to get back to your hotel or taking an expensive taxi. it is in the center of the gothic quarters, which is perfect for seeing the sights. las ramblas is about 7 minutes walking distance, the cathedral is 2 mins walking, laietana (one of the main roads in barcelona) runs right in front of the hotel, the beach is about 15 mins walking, and catalunya plaza (a main hub for many tour group departures, buses, metros, etc) is about 15 mins walking (but in a different direction than the beach). i loved that i was always nearby where i wanted to be. amenities: the room i had was very clean and would be a comfortable size for two people (i was traveling alone, though). i was on the 5th floor, which has skylights in the ceiling. i loved that because i could open the skylight to let fresh air in, but didn't have to worry about closing the curtains while changing. plus, it was always sunny in the room during the day! the only thing i found odd was that there were no washcloths (and maybe this is a spanish thing? i've never encountered this in any of the other 8 european countries i've been in). i asked at the front desk, and at the supermarket where i was shopping for one, and everyone looked at me like i was a weirdo. they just said they rub a bar of soap on their body to wash themselves. (the hotel does provide bar soap!) service/staff: everyone that i encountered during my two-week stay, that worked there, was very polite. the morning staff was very knowledgeable and the head-honcho guy would always willingly pull out a map and give walking/bus/metro directions to me to get me where i wanted to go. some of the evening staff seemed a little hesitant if i had a question about something (like the washcloth, ha!)... but i also don't think they understood english as well as the morning people. the maids were also very friendly. i opted to not have my room cleaned while staying there, since i don't like strangers in my room, but when i saw them in the hallways they always asked if i needed any new towels or anything, while still respecting my wish for no room cleaning service until i checked out. overall, i'd give it two out of two thumbs up and would stay there again.
