Given the urban intensity of cairo, this hotel located on the top two floors of a residential building in a district actually graced with mature trees is just paradise. it is not quite downtown but very close to it, though not really within walking distance given the state of the sidewalks and the level of traffic. there are still (relatively) good stores and restaurants nearby. one that is particularly great is le caire 1940, set in a former apartment, just like the hotel, with great service and food and reasonable prices.
