We decided quite arbitrarily to stay at the hotel california as 1) we could say the name and 2) a band member of the eagles had just died so it seemed apt - usually location is our priority with a city break and also the price but as there were many hotels that satisfied both criteria they were the deciding factors! what a lucky break; 50m from an u station on the main shopping street of old west berlin, with the kaiser william memorial church, ka de we and the zoo in walking distance other sights were easily reached via u or s trains.. the room was clean, well serviced daily and quiet. breakfast was one of the best buffets i have had out of 5 star. the haagden dazs café attached was a bonus. the staff were friendly and efficient but not gushing or ott. i would happily recommend and re-stay.
