I have visited florence a few times and have stayed in various different hotels (including a couple which are 5 rather than 4 stars). continentale is easily the best of the hotels i have stayed in. the location is perfect (literally yards from ponte vecchio) and this alone makes it worth paying slightly more than for hotels closer to the station. even the 'basic' rooms are a decent size with some nice design features (the hotel is part of the ferragamo chain of boutique hotels). the views from the roof terrace over the river are stunning. breakfast was good. the fitness/spa area is big (and not the 'token'fitness room that a lot of other hotels offer). all staff were exceptionally nice.
