Fabulous hotel for a fabulous price . . .
My husband and i stayed here for two nights (sat. & sun.). we drove there from munich . . . the place was hard to find, but that's a common problem i've always had in italy when staying in a hotel that is not right off the highway (you have to have 20/20 vision, wear night goggles, and be on foot to read the street signs . . . all the same in venice, florence, treviso, etc). we were lost for about an hour until i decided to call the hotel. the clerk spoke perfect english, and gave easy and clear directions . . . we arrived at the hotel less than 10 min. later. the hotel is in a small, sleepy town, and is located in the middle of a very large field. this is not the place to stay if you do not have your own transportation, or if you are looking for a party; however, our room was clean; the hotel was very quiet; and breakfast was satisfactory. the town had nice restaurants, dive bars, and a few clothing shops. i think almost everyone who was at the hotel was only there to tour venice, which was only a 15 min. drive by car (no traffic). parking on tronchetto, venice costs 20 eur, and a 12hr public transportation pass costs 13 eur pp. we spoke with many other tourists who were staying on the main venice island, or on lido in mid to low price hotels (150 eur or less), and they all had negative things to say about them. i don't know the names of those hotels, but it seemed the only good thing about them was that they were on the islands; however, they were not worth the noise or smell in the night. the claudia augusta is a great hotel, especially for the price we paid (62 eur total per night). it was worth getting lost a little bit, and the extra 15 min drive into venice.
