Good hotel within walking distance of the plato

A calm oasis within walking distance from the plato and achada santo antonio. large, clean and nicely furnished rooms with comfortable beds. adequate breakfast with delicious fresh fruit. the water in the non-heated, very shallow pool is cold (while days are warm, temperatures fall to below 20 at night). not all members of staff are able to communicate in english, but there always seems to be at least one receptionist on call who speaks adequate to good english. i found all staff friendly and helpful. the restaurant is said to be the best in praia, but dinners are both expensive and average at best. however, the outside restaurants i visited were equally expensive and the food wasn’t any better, so you might as well stick to the two daily changing mains and the dessert buffet. wifi is free and unlimited but very slow. the front desk changes escudos to a reasonable rate (1€ will give you 104.25 cve, while at a bank you will need to bring a passport and you receive about 105.50 cve). there are always taxis right outside. they charge 200 escudos to the plato or sucupira market and 1000 escudos to cidade velha or the airport. prices seem fixed, so if they try to overcharge, just pick another one. pestana tropico is a good choice, probably the best in praia, and i will definitely stay here if i ever visit praia again.
