Check in problem

hallo, we checked in as usual and the receptionist told us that he cant find our booking. i showed him your mail-confirmation and he still didnt accept without a print out. the whole process took one hour and that was very ambarassing for a late night arrival with a baby. i wonder why i had a confirmation and the hotel didnt know about?
